There Was Never Any Need To Panic On Transfers. We Are Playing A Different Game.

Last week, if you’ll recall, Chris Sutton and others seemed to be getting concerned about our “lack of transfer activity”

We needed players to take us to the next level, they said.

They were right, of course, especially with Champions League qualifiers fast approaching, the first due to kick off in only 12 days time.

However what they, and we all, must remember is the level we are at against the rest of Scottish football.

Other teams are doing as much as they can, early,  as they have under par teams when compared to those they will face in the early rounds of Europe; in the case of St Johnstone and Sevco it still might not prove to be enough, after absolutely lamentable first legs. Others need to get thier targets in to ensure they don’t lose out. This is why some clubs have signed lots of players whilst we appear to have been standing still.

But we are not in the same position as those clubs.

As Brendan pointed out, we’re after quality not quantity.

The players that we will bring in will be top drawer, I’m sure of it. Our confirmed target of the moment, Musonda at Chelsea, has all the qualities we need. We might get him, we might not, but this at least hints at the calibre we’re going for.

Some of those player won’t discuss terms with other teams until later in the summer; Brendan knows we may have to play the waiting game here.

Anyway, as it stands we are good to get by Linfield and, dare I say, probably the next round too.

What’s clear is that in terms of domestic football we are on a different level to the rest of the Scottish game.

We are more successful, we have more money and we can pay for and attract better players.

This reality physically hurts some people, you know.

People like the SFA President, at it again with this garbage about the game needing “a strong Sevco”.

Gees peace.

It really gets under their skin that we, of all clubs, are simply at a higher level than the rest and that the Ibrox club trails in our wake.

So don’t panic. There was no need. There is no need.

We will sign players, not many, perhaps three or four at most.

But they will be quality, of the kind that others in our game simply cannot access.

No matter how much they borrow from their directors or dodgy overseas “businessmen.”
