Celtic fans showed their support today for the Pride agenda, with a magnificent banner in rainbow colours, advertising us as a “club open to all.”

It’s a wonderful gesture, exactly what one would expect.

Celtic fans come from all walks of life, all backgrounds, all religions, races and orientations.

Our club was one of the first in the UK to publish a Social Charter; we got no credit whatsoever for it.

When the Bhoys Against Bigotry initiative was launched one journalist notoriously slammed it for “the provocative H.” David Murray disdained it, and then later tried to claim credit for having inspired it. Our club has always been ahead of the curve.

It probably won’t surprise anyone that a lot of folk – and I hate to say this, but including many Sevco fans, have responded by reaching from the gutter. Twitter is full of the kind of responses which would not have been out of place at the Charleston right-wing soiree which got Trump into such trouble this past week. References to how we are now supporting “poofs” and such like are the milder comments, the ones I can publish which actually stand a chance of getting through the Newsnow filters.

This, by no means, is a statement on Sevco fans in general.

When one of their fans posted this truly loathsome Tweet ….

…. the response he got from his fellow bears (and the Twitterati in general) alternated between disgust and savage, beautiful mockery. Some of the responses were tremendous, such as the guy who posted a picture straight from the Celtic end at Killie, wearing his Pride coloured shoes.

I laughed my ass off at this one in particular.

The haters are gonna hate. I loved the way they were roundly beaten down though by so many on Twitter, from so many clubs, Sevco included.

Pride Glasgow sounds as if it went tremendously well today; it’s just a shame they didn’t get the weather they deserved.

This is one of those issues where football is still in the dark ages; a section of “society” took great delight today in showing us why. Sevco’s own Twitter feed sent out a message of support; it was hijacked by a lot of idiots. There is no excuse for this type of ignorance in the modern world … I am glad Celtic fans chose to make this statement, and I congratulate the fans of all the other clubs, and Sevco’s especially, who stood up today and told those people to piss off.

But you can always rely on the gutter rats to crawl out of the sewer.

And there are many of them.

I really don’t know why they hate … everybody.
