The Media Doesn’t Realise Brendan Was Slagging Them Over Sevco’s Transfer “Spending.”

Brendan Rodgers took a shot at the media last night, and it hit the mark. But they are so dense they didn’t even realise that he’d done it. They interpreted it as a “ramping up the pressure” on Sevco, and in a way it was … but it was also a joke at their expense.

This is how The Sunday Mail wrote up what Brendan said;

“He insists Gers have no wriggle room for failure after Pedro Caixinha’s multi-million pound spree in the close season dwarfed Celtic’s outlay despite their huge Champions League windfall from last season …”

Hahaha.

Brendan actually trolled these people and they printed that without even realising that he’d done it.

Their close season spending “dwarfed” ours? Really? We spent £6 million on transfer fees alone. We spent an estimated £1 million on the loan fee for Patrick Roberts. How much did Sevco actually spend? What was the total?

We don’t know what the total was. The media was pulling numbers out of its arse. Carlos Pena for £2 million? That’s daylight robbery without a mask on. If they really paid that the word “mugs” is too good for them. £1 million for Herrera? Give me a break. He’s a Hamilton player with a suntan. I know for a fact that Dorrans didn’t go for major money; Norwich were stunned that Sevco was prepared to offer anything for him. Candelas?

Teams must have seen them coming to even get fees for these guys.

The numbers the press was throwing around were ridiculous, and everyone knows it. Brendan certainly does, and last night he used their nonsense against the Sevco boss in a way that was quite brilliantly. He left Caixinha nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. He mercilessly beat the man with the media’s own evaluation of the cost of Sevco’s team.

The rest of Brendan’s interview is the giveaway … this was a guy having a right old laugh.

““They have clearly spent money in the summer. They spent more than us – and we’re a Champions League club,” he said. I’m surprised he could keep from braying laughter like a hyena saying those words. Credit to the man for keeping his face straight.

Even more credit for this part.

““So that tells you that their idea is to win the league. It’s not to finish third. Not to finish above Aberdeen. It’s to win the league … he obviously came in during the close season and was able to assess and look at different methods that Rangers can try to work and play. And I’m sure they will be reasonably happy with how they have started.”

Hahaha.

Their idea is not to finish second or third. Pressure, right there. But that ending is just solid gold, folks. Solid gold.

“I’m sure they will be reasonably happy with how they have started.”

Yeah.

Five points behind us as we head to Ibrox. Knocked out of Europe by the Luxembourgers. Solid investment in a team of nobodies.

Reasonably happy.

Wow.

Brendan knows how to get his point across alright … and the media, who just took his every word at face value, swallowed the bait and printed it straight.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible.
