Wow. Just when you thought things couldn’t look better at Parkhead.
Tonight, Kieran Tierney, our young left back, one of the hottest prospects in all of football on this island, has committed his long term future to the club by signing a quite breath-taking six year contract. It is the best news we could have got prior to tomorrow.
Kieran’s development under first Ronny and then Brendan has been one of the great sources of pleasure for all of our supporters these past few years. But above and beyond just the normal satisfaction of watching an academy prospect bed into the first team squad is the undeniable joy we get out of the realisation that this kid is the Real Deal, a player of unlimited potential who even the English press knows full well could play anywhere.
He is already the subject of intense media speculation, involving the likes of Arsenal and Spurs.
None of that is going to happen.
He has expressed his own delight at being a Celtic player on more than one occasion; our club is his club.
This is his dream come true and tonight he’s living it more splendidly than ever.
It is a vote of confidence by the club in the player, but it’s also a vote of confidence by the player towards the strategy of the club and the leadership of Brendan Rodgers.
Now, if we can just convince big Moussa to do the same … well, we can really start building something here that will last far beyond the current horizon.
