A Munich Diary Part 2: A Day In The Square With The Best Fans In The World

|

12:00 noon. Marienplatz Square.

Hoops everywhere you look! Wahey!

But a lot of grumpy faces this lunchtime as the local bars and cafes are enforcing a no beers rule.

This place is now the soberest place in Munich and probably Bavaria considering how many of our fans have travelled here by weird and wonderful routes.

The Germans are affable and friendly people.

They are helpful and courteous which makes getting about very easy.

The few Bayern fans we’ve come across have been very nice.

Without exactly wishing us well they would be happy for us to do well peripheral to these matches.

The mood here is excellent.

Munich is a beautiful place. It is a wonderfully cosmopolitan city, multi national, multi ethnic and extraordinarily clean. I understand why the Brexit brigade gets defensive about the continent; they make the Brits look like backward idiots content to live in a 50’s state of crumbling infrastructure.

The folks who run our county could have learned a lot from these places if they weren’t so ignorant they already thought they knew everything already.

Thoughts turn to team selection: who the hell are we going to play at the centre of defence?

And does a guy who spends more time on the treatment table than he does on the park really have a long term future at our club?

More and more fans are showing up to sample the mood. This is going to be some day!
