Well we got it done.
Another record falls. 69 games and counting.
We’re also in the UEFA Hall of Fame for domestic league games without defeat.
If we can keep it going we’ll be re-writing every record out there.
There were moments there when the defence looked a bit shaky, but for the most part that was a disciplined and decent display. We took the three points which is all that was really important. It was a good performance, especially from Ntcham, who deservedly took home the man of the match award and scored a great goal.
He could have had a few more too. The whole team could have. The second half was more or less going through the motions … at the back that meant a couple of scares. Our defenders really have to learn not to switch off. It’s ridiculous how often they do it.
But there can be few complaints after that.
I thought Griffiths would play from the start; he didn’t, Edouard did. I defy anyone to say there was much difference between them. They both performed reasonably well without necessarily being brilliant. The best players on the pitch were in the midfield tonight; Sinclair had an excellent first half and looked to be back at his best. If he carries that kind of form forward, we’ll all be justifiably well pleased. McGregor was full of energy. Armstrong showed his quality.
Forrest scored again, another peach of a goal. He is on fire this season. He’s already being talked about as a player of the year candidate. It’s high time this Bhoy had a song, and that’s not even because it would be nice to hear my name ringing around Celtic Park!
Tonight was about professionalism and getting the job done. Next up is Tynecastle. I expect a similarly good display. The games are coming thick and fast right now, and we’re getting through them. We never looked in danger tonight.
Elsewhere, Aberdeen showed their stuff and cruised to a victory over a St Johnstone side that has dropped like a rock in recent months. Soo too have Motherwell, and their season is probably over with the news that Moult will probably not play again this side of the New Year. By the time he’s fit he might well be playing somewhere else; Preston were mentioned yesterday and a lot of people seem to think that’s nearly a done deal.
And then there was Hibs – Sevco. I watched that tonight alongside the Celtic game – impressive multi-tasking, right? – and had Hibs possessed a single player with the quality and finishing ability of Forrest that would have been a hiding. Instead they’ve lost a match they utterly dominated, from start to finish, but for a five-minute spell in which Sevco scored twice. When I tell you that the away team were completely abysmal I am not joking.
Those who think Murty deserves the job, well all I can say is that I hope that mood prevails.
If he gets it they will settle nicely into mid-table ignominy until the board is forced to sack him. In truth, I don’t know who could make something out of this squad of theirs; it is a dire state. A side with more firepower would have turned out their lights tonight.
Unfortunately for Murty and his rag-bag mob they play such a team at the end of the month. As far as I’m concerned they can scrape through games until then; if they turn up at Celtic Park and try to play like the way they did there the result will be humiliating. There’s no other word. I cannot fathom how they took three points tonight. Hibs hit the bar, the post, were denied a penalty … the match was wholly one-sided and yet they’ve lost it.
Sevco were very, very lucky.
On the 30th luck it all comes crashing down.
