What a manager we have here.

Tonight Brendan Rodgers has completely changed up the tactics in order to avoid being predictable. The manager had a system that worked in the first year, to devastating effect, but teams can suss that stuff out after a while. Some managers stay in the comfort zone. Those are the ones who tend to slide after a couple of season. They put too much faith in what has worked before. It takes a top boss to break with a system which has gotten results and go with something new.

Brendan is such a manager.

Tonight we’re going with two up front at home against Hearts, the only team which has beaten us, domestically, since the man took over. Dembele and Edouard play together. The partnership they have the potential to form is one that could be highly effective.

Musonda is on the bench. So is Scott Sinclair.

What superb late-game options that gives us.

We’ve also gone with a flat back three in a system where Kieran will play as a winger. Kouassi Eboue plays in a midfield alongside Ntcham and Brown. Forrest plays on the right wing.

This is a superb tactical decision, and one that will leave Hearts a little baffled about what to do. They thought they’d be playing against our back four, possibly with one of our centre backs playing on the right. They had thought their defence would be able to mark out the lone striker.

Let’s see what they can do on the hoof. It doesn’t matter. Brendan has options on the bench which are good enough to react to anything they decide on.

We’re about to see re-affirmation of why so many players talk about our boss as one of the best in the business. What might have been a tense evening now looms as something very exciting instead.
