I am not surprised to see Celtic fans turning on Kris Commons, the latest ex-player to take up a gig in the media. I am not surprised because I almost penned a scathing article about him last month, when he panned our new signing, the German defender Marvin Compper without ever having seen him. Today he’s attacking Moussa Dembele, with a lot of surmising and drawing ridiculous conclusions based on absolutely no evidence.

Kris Commons should have departed Celtic a legend. Since he enjoys reading into things, perhaps we should do the same.

He finished a half dozen goals from the 100 which would have given him a place in the Hall of Fame; Brendan did not give him the chance. If we were being cheeky, if we were happy to just surmise things, we could assume something happened within Celtic Park that left our manager highly unimpressed, enough so to deny him that chance.

Speculation, right? But no more speculative than the absolute nonsense he penned in his latest newspaper column. And as bad as the words themselves was the organ in which he wrote it, the racist, bigoted, anti-Scottish, Tory right rag The Daily Mail.

If he has trouble paying his electric bill there must be better ways than writing for those scum.

But what is clear from his two columns – the one on Compper was equally appalling; the player was too old, and although our defence needed experience he had too much. It was an attack just for the sake of it as far as I could see – is that he’s seen his quick route to a permanent gig; attack the club he used to play for.

Find something negative to write about Celtic, and the doors will open.

It’s about what I would expect from someone writing for that arse rag.

But I do hope this isn’t establishing a pattern here. So many ex Celtic players, when they are short of something to say, turn the guns on us.

And it would be shameful if the over-riding emotion I felt wasn’t despair because I had expected better from him … a lot better. He was one of the guys I thought might actually show us some respect and loyalty having left.

Celtic fans vented their fury at the latest article. No wonder. It reeked of bitterness. If this is the standard we can expect from him in future he’s going to find any goodwill that he had go by the boards. It won’t take long. Celtic fans have no stomach for the nonsense that the media comes out with, especially those in it who played for us and can’t wait to stick in the boot.

Walker, Nicholas, Burley et all are despised by our fans.

This is a bad start for him.

How sad, how tragic, it would be if a genuinely great Celt, who’s wife is a wonderful ambassador for our charitable wing, were to end up in that sordid club.
