Rumours are swirling that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could be headed north to Celtic, but don’t pencil him into the lineup just yet.
Sturridge would likely have to take a big pay-cut in the Scottish Premiership.
It’s not clear that his desire to showcase his talents in the build-up to Russia 2018 will be strong enough to sign in a less lucrative market.
He may not be long for Anfield, but according to Sports Betting Dime the odds he lands at Celtic are just 3/1 from the various betting sites reviewed there.
The England international is seriously struggling for game-time at the Merseyside outfit this season, and a move away in this January window seems a beneficial decision for all parties involved.
The 28-year-old would tear up the Scottish Premier League, and the combination of Scott Sinclair and Sturridge would be formidable.
It’s fair to say that Celtic have conquered Scotland and their domestic league, so Rodgers needs to be signing up players of Champions League ilk, players that can genuinely compete in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Sturridge is a player of that calibre, he can perform at the highest level, we’ve seen it first-hand.
With Moussa Dembele potentially leaving Celtic Park this season, Sturridge would be a perfect replacement.
There are issues though, the striker will demand significant wages – wages that Celtic are unlikely to fork out.
Sturridge is also reaching the latter stages of his career, and would want to be plying his trade at the highest level, the SPFL doesn’t really offer that.
