That was shocking today. Shocking. Three shots on target against St Johnstone at home. I don’t care how many changes there were, I don’t care who was being rested.
And I don’t care about a ref who gave us nothing either. Those are excuses, and there are no excuse for that. If this was a one off you could make those allowances; it isn’t. We have dropped points in nine games this season.
Out of twenty seven.
That’s one third of all our matches.
Anyone who thinks that’s good is enough is kidding on.
One clown on a Celtic blog has said he doesn’t care if we win the league on goal difference … that kind of thinking is ridiculous “settle for anything” garbage. Fans pay good money to watch Celtic play at home in the league. This season the standard of the football at our own ground, in that competition, has been atrocious.
Midweek we were exceptional against a top class team. Today we were woeful. It was strictly sub-par. How can a team with so many attacking players, and with so much flare, look so abject at times? What is wrong with us? Whatever it is, we are lucky the teams around us are just as bad. Aberdeen lost yesterday; we actually gained a point on them.
Unbelievable. If we had a serious challenger right now what trouble we would be in.
A lot of our fans think days like this can be excused over the season as a whole; let’s see how many of them say that if our rivals get off to a winning start in the next campaign or – God forbid – we go to Pittodrie next Sunday on the back of the Russia trip and don’t win.
That’s not outside the realms of possibility, is it?
It’s nearly impossible to approach games at the moment without some trepidation. You don’t know what Celtic team will turn up from one game to the next. We have yet to win four matches on the bounce; think on that. Sevco fired a manager for that and whilst no-one is suggesting that Brendan get the boot, who in their right mind wants to watch that?
We seemed almost determined to make this league race real.
What I won’t do is blame the manager for the team selection; we cannot, on one hand, claim that some of our footballers have played too many games and then moan when he drops a couple of them for a game like today. Those who think we were complacent … turn it up. We had a French Under 21 striker, Scott Sinclair, Musonda, McGregor and Rogic on that park and we could still barely test their goalkeeper over the course of the match.
We had enough firepower to blow that team away.
We were simply rank rotten.
This kind of form will not deliver a treble. In another environment it would not be good enough to deliver us a title. It is woeful. People at Celtic Park better wake up. We’re heading for trouble unless we turn this form around.
Provided we get through the Scottish Cup quarter final at home – take nothing for granted here, not with this team – bigger fish await us.
We will not beat any of the likely winners of the other ties playing like that.
Right now, anyone with a spark of creativity could beat us on days like today.
Thank God Wright’s team was more interested in kicking us than trying to play football.
