Sevco fans think Celtic are afraid of Ibrox next week.

Of course we aren’t.

A few exceptions aside, I don’t think our fans are, I don’t think our team are and I don’t think our manager is. Here’s the thing; we don’t really need to win next week; that’s something that hasn’t dawned on their fans who can only see the game in terms of a Celtic win or one for their club which will throw them into paroxysms of ecstasy.

A draw does us. It lets us leave with a six-point lead with a game in hand. Get the win in our game in hand we’re nine clear with eight games to go. Catch us if you can, morons.

Yet that’s not what I think will happen, because the draw isn’t what we’re going there for. We’re going there to win, we’re going there to slap them down for all their crap over the last few weeks, we’re going there to end this “title challenge” bollocks early.

And today Brendan will have seen the means. That tactical system he played at the start of the game today was bang on. The team selection he started the second half with was even better. The three-man central defence will work for us, with Kieran playing as a wing-back. But on no account should we try to accommodate Scott Sinclair.

Scott Sinclair has had his chances this season, and he is so off the boil he’s a man down right now. It’s time to pull him to one side and find out what’s going on with him, because he’s not even close to being the player he was last year. I wouldn’t have him in the team next week; instead, the manager should put Edouard up front with Dembele.

I am actually heartened to read that Brendan has just said the two of them worked well together; even as I was writing this, the press conferences are being put up and he heaped praise on the partnership, and that’s what it was today.

I am convinced that the combination of both will be far more than the Sevco defence is set up to handle. I believe that if he plays them both we’ll walk that game, and really put this fantasy of theirs back in the magic box where it belongs.
