A Team Of Wanted Men? Will Celtic Even Have A Team To Start The Next Campaign?

Read the papers recently? No, me neither.

But everywhere you look online you see reports. Reports that we’re set to lose this player or that player. Add it all up and you know what you get? Our entire first team squad might be gone before the season starts.

Oh how the media would love it.

And the teams that are looking … wow. All with big bucks to spend. Sell everyone who’s linked and we can rebuild the team with EPL money.

But fail to get our men and our Under 20’s would be taking the field next season.

I don’t know about you, but I’m already sick of this.

I know this happens to other teams, just not the one across the city. But it’s a drag. It is flattering that teams like Dortmund are said to be sniffing around Kris Ajer; it means that, once again, we’ve done something right in the scouting and development area. It means that we’re still viewed as a club which knows its business.

Of course, this is providing the interest is real and not just an effort, by the media, to unsettle our players.

It could be both.

Just because a club sends scouts to a game it doesn’t mean that an offer is going to follow, and the Tierney story which flared briefly last week was clear-cut nonsense. The problem we have – the problem we will continue to have – is that every club who needs a player in a position where one of ours is doing well will be alleged to be up sniffing around up here.

Brendan has said this repeatedly; if clubs want our players they have to do their talking through the proper channels. Those start and finish with the club itself. Everything else is just bluster. Everything else is just someone stirring the soup.

The media enjoys that. When they aren’t making up stories about Sevco players being wanted for big bucks – in a bid to start an auction – they are alleging that ours are …but with a very different agenda in mind.
