Sevco Sites Are Getting Ready To Blame The SPFL For Any Trouble They Cause On Sunday.

Amazing. I knew this would happen, but it still surprises me to see it.

The Sevco fan forums, and even one of their websites (guess which one?) are gearing up for defeat at the weekend and since it’s at our ground and will secure us the title they are predicting a riotous response from their fans at the game. Literally riotous. And they are getting their excuses in ahead of it.

We already know their club will support that view, and I definitely expect there to be a bile-filled press release in the aftermath if their fans do anything outrageous, which I do believe is a virtual certainty on the day.

Their diabolical statement after the Scottish Cup Final, in which they said their fans had invaded the park for a square go to “protect their players and staff” is still the most outrageous I’ve ever read …

I know how they will react to ugly scenes at Parkhead; the way they did last time when the toilets were wrecked. With deflection and excuses.

I’ve read the sentiment expressed many times on their forums that if it all kicks off on Sunday that it will be “the SPFL to blame for it”. It’s a disgusting sentiment, because if it kicks off it will be entirely the fault of those who start the trouble and nobody else.

I do believe, and have written so, that the SPFL screwed up by pandering to the mob mentality in the first place, and whilst I agree they are wholly incompetent and have proved it here in spades that is not an alibi for lunatics who want to cause it.

And speaking of lunatics, Ibrox Noise has become the first actual site to openly say that if there is trouble it will be the fault of the SPFL schedulers, saying basically that their fans have been pushed enough and this could be a step too far.

“This Sunday’s potential title winning match at Celtic Park will be extremely difficult for our fans to swallow,” their article says. “It is the last scenario the light blue legions wanted to witness! What were the SPFL thinking about? Were any of the committee thinking about all the different consequences leading up to this match? Obviously not! They are not fit for purpose.”

It finishes with these lines: “When you add our historical contempt for our Celtic opponents, and if we lose this week’s game, out will come all the vitriolic songs and the often shown downright hatred towards each other. Absolute chaos.”

And so it begins, before a ball is even kicked.

The revisionism. The blame-casting. The deflection.

They are a disgrace, and in the event they disgrace themselves even further this weekend I hope everyone in Scottish football remembers that it was not the fault of the governing bodies but those in the stands and who clearly cannot handle defeat.

I bet Jim Traynor is already busy working on the statement.
