Unleash Jason Holt To Stop Celtic? Surely, You’re Having A Laugh, Right?

One of the things I dearly love about Scottish football and its journalism is the amount of Monday Morning Quarterbacking that goes on. Today it’s the turn of Billy Brown – and honestly, who cares? – to propose a solution for beating Celtic at the weekend; unleash Jason Holt. And it is hilarious how desperate The Record is for a plan that they’ve resorted to this.

Jason Holt is a two bob footballer, a Hearts reject, who has ended up at Ibrox because their club is in an even bigger mess than the one at Tynecastle.

It does not matter how many of these square pegs they try to put in the round holes, because there is no footballer in midfield in Scotland who, on his day, can stand up to the brilliance of Scott Brown.

Sevco has tried 57 varieties in that midfield of theirs. Is this where they are at?

First Barton was the iron man who would put a stop to our captain’s reign, I’ve heard it about The Lesser Spotted Rossiter, about Dorrans and lately Greg Docherty.

In fact, Gordon Waddell’s idiotic claim was that Brown was on the downslope as Docherty was moving up and that it would be the ex-Hamilton player who would triumph.

Look how that’s turned out.

Now Jason Holt? Dear God. And next season, what? Next season it’s supposed to be Arfield if they can get a deal for him over the line. Their search for a solution will take them down ever stupider paths, but it’s hard to imagine one dumber than this.

I’ve watched Holt play over the last year or so of his time at Ibrox and there is nothing to him at all. He is a player Hearts were perfectly willing to jettison and for good reasons. Sevco’s signing of his was desperate. The suggestion that he could stop Brown is ridiculous.

But this is where they are now.

At a stage where anything sounds better than nothing.
