Celtic has released a statement on their website in relation to the news Sevco released earlier on their decision to cut our away allocation for Ibrox. Celtic’s statement does not mess about. It does not offer commentary of any sort. It is short, and to the point.

“An unprecedented Double Treble and historic season for the Club has led to a phenomenal level of demand from supporters to be part of Celtic. We are happy to reciprocate in terms of ticket allocation, something which will give us the opportunity to meet this huge demand to visit Celtic Park.”

And that’s the news a lot of our supporters have been hoping to hear for quite some time.

Sevco were given plenty of prior notice that our response would be something on this order, yet even I am surprised that we’ve issued our statement so quickly.

Caught by surprise or not, this was, as I said, planned for long ago.

And Celtic have not hesitated to take the appropriate action.

There’s only going to be one winner here, folks, and it ain’t the Ibrox NewCo.

Gerrard is their last throw of the dice. They came very, very close to a complete collapse in season ticket numbers for this campaign, but no matter how much they pander to their gutter element with this news and their earlier statement of today, they are at the mercy of events rather than in control of them. Should the Gerrard gambit fail – and it’s off to a rocky start already – attendances at Ibrox will collapse like King’s proverbial house of cards.

Hey, if they can with-stand a loss of 7000 fans paying £50 a head, that’s fine. I know we’ll cope with losing a sum akin to a raid on the petty cash box. But like every other Ibrox “feel-good” moment, this one is largely illusory. It has a sting and they’re already feeling it.

Nice work, Celtic, for an instant reaction.
