Michael O’Halloran Did Not “Disrespect” Sevco. Look How That Club Has Treated This Guy.

One of the most disappointing things I’ve read today is that Michael O’Halloran has issued an apology to Sevco over being pictured in the Celtic end at Hampden at the weekend. It says a lot for that disgusting lot that he feels like he has to do this; if I were in his shoes I might well think it’s about time somebody told them to get stuffed.

For openers, their bone of contention seems to have been the “disrespect” it shows them. I’m not clear on why that should be the case. He was one face amidst thousands. It’s not like turned up there holding a flare in one hand and a sign saying “Here I am” in the other. He was very low key. He kept to himself. He wasn’t advertising his presence. Had a photograph of him not been shared all over the internet few would know or even care.

But it’s hurt the poor sensitive feelings of the Sevco snowflakes. I actually detest that word and all its connotations, but I detest their mourning self-pity and the way they use it to justify their bile and hatred even more. If they feel disrespected that’s just tough titty. When they start to behave in a manner that respects other people they might get some back.

I mean, think for a minute on the brass neck it takes to slag a guy for attending a Celtic game who only days ago was being abused in the street. That club has treated him like dirt. It has ruined the best years of his career, and the fans have called him every disgusting, bigoted name under the sun.

Tell me exactly what he owes them at this point?

If he had turned up at the game and burned a Sevco shirt in protest, I would have not have thought his behaviour out of line.

It’s not like he wiped his runny nose on a pair of their shorts.

It’s not like he had been a Rangers player and refused to transfer his contract to Sevco, right?

That’s what you call disrespect.

That’s what you call disloyalty.

But I guess some things are easier to forgive than others.

O’Halloran has already given them more than they’ll ever deserve. The venom they’ve poured on him is entirely disproportionate and steeped in darker motives than those they claim. It is, to put not too fine a point on, it sectarian in nature.

This time last week they were moaning about some of their players being pictured on holiday with Scott Allan. Before that it was moaning about their manager’s being too chummy with Brendan. I’ve never seen fans so completely consumed by such trivial bullshit.

What’s especially horrible here is the way the media has taken up the case and the cause of Sevco’s redneck faithful and promoted this “O’Halloran has shown disrespect” nonsense. They did the same to Naill McGinn when McInnes had a go at him after he was pictured at a Celtic game.

Is this a new standard, is it?

Are players no longer allowed to go and see other clubs? Celtic should be outraged at Leigh Griffiths going to see Hibs when we aren’t playing; why aren’t we? Can it be because we’re not childish yahoos? Can it be that the issue is actually players from other clubs going to see Celtic and not some alleged disloyalty? Where was the media criticism of self-confessed Liverpool fan Dave King going to watch them at Anfield?

Oh that’s right. It was buried in all the Steven Gerrard euphoria, so no-one bothered to ask why he misses so many games at the ground where he’s chairman.

I’ve seen stinking hypocrisy before from these Peepul, but this takes the cake.

O’Halloran should tell them to piss off, and their media pals as well.

He’s a Celtic fan.

The club he plays for have wrapped it up for the season. He didn’t bunk off training. He wasn’t attending on one of their match-days. These Peepul just love to play the victim card at the moment; it’s what they have instead of success on the park, this wallowing in self-made suffering.

It is pathetic.
