No Sevco Fans, Dave King Did Not Make You Look Daft. You Made You Look Daft.

Today’s news, as unveiled by Dave King, that there will not be uncounted, uncountable, millions in “investment” from sources from outside of the club, and his apparent willingness to persist in the boardroom regardless, has met with a kind of stunned disbelief and outpouring of anger on the Sevco fan forums.

They think they’ve been duped.

And in a sense, of course, they were.

But the trouble is, King is not the one who duped them.

No, the Sevco fans have to look a little closer to home in their quest to identify a culprit for that. They have to look at themselves, for if they look daft today it’s because of their own stupidity and wish to believe in the most absurd fantasies.

Sometimes I think trolling was invented with the internet, but deep down I know it wasn’t.

One of the finest examples of trolling I’ve ever seen was in a Disney movie of all places; 101 Dalmatians, the 1961 version, when Cruella De Vil first makes her appearance as Roger is struggling to write his new song. He takes inspiration from her and before she’s even left the house he’s got it almost done. In the interim he plays the tune loudly on various instruments upstairs, even stamping on the floor, as Anita, his wife, tries to supress her laughter. Cruella does not know she’s being trolled though … she an unpleasant but unknowing victim.

But the internet has given trolling a wider audience and made the subjects of the trolling full participants in the affair. They set themselves up with their own behaviour. They advertise their gullibility and that invites the laughter and the slagging.

And today we’re all playing their tune and we’re all banging on the floor and they know exactly why.

Even now some of them can’t stop with the fantasies, and cling to the absurd belief that King’s statement is a cover for something else, or that the club can dispense with such frivolities as paying bills, wages and other running costs and “add the £6 million to the season ticket money.” What a world these muppets live in.

Here’s the thing; Dave King didn’t make them any lunatic promises in this case. I don’t like to wind up defending that man but he did nothing in this case to give them the slightest indication that there were millions going to be poured into the club.

All of this came from Sevco fans’ own fevered imaginations. They constructed this humiliation all by themselves. They can throw invective at King as much as they want, but he did not do this to them today. Until they snap out of this mind-set this pain will just go on and on and on. They are forced, now, to confront the Gerrard thing as it is, an inexperienced coach going head to head with our manager and our team with no more funding (and perhaps actually less) than Caixinha did.

They’re not laughing anymore.

It took just half a week.

You couldn’t make that up.
