The Sevco Fans Really Are Buying Into This “Steven Gerrard Warchest” Delusion Aren’t They?

The spin has begun. So have the flights into fantasy.

Ever since Gerrard was confirmed at Ibrox there had been a gushing of all the usual spin from their fans and lackeys about how wonderful it is and what it proves.

So when their criminal chairman announced there would be a presser on the Monday after Gerrard was paraded there were a rash of stories about what would be announced.

Mark Guidi had indicated, very strongly, that there would “investment” into Ibrox.

Then there was the announcement, which amounted to precisely damn all.

£6 million via a share issue? Chump change.

But that meant the spin machine had to go into over drive.

The fans started it, Ibrox noise quote “1: We still have second place to secure. There is £2.5M up for grabs by way of finishing runners up. That added to the £6M suddenly makes it £8.5M.

2: Europa League qualifiers beckon based on that second (or at worst third) placed finish. That is a further roughly £250,000 per round, for three rounds. Assuming we make the group stage that’s shy of a further million plus the £2.5M default credit for making it there. Suddenly it’s now £3.5M before the transfer window even closes.

3: This does not include player sales. Are some fans so naive they actually expect the board to fork out multi millions or for new investment to buy us a pile of new players when we ALREADY have a tonne of dross on our books? How big do you want the squad to be?!”

This is the spin their fans believe.

That all those things add up to a fortune.

As if Europa League qualification was just a matter of turning up.

As if player sales were a simple matter of saying “such and such a player is available … who wants to buy him?” and waiting for the offers to pour in.

Now add that to the nonsense that is being spouted by Guidi and the like “my information is still investment coming and maybe King is just playing cards close to his chest as he doesnt want to be held to ransom…after all we have all heard the stories about Torres being on his way to Ibrox …”

This belief that Gerrard simply must have been promised tens of millions is driving these idiots on.

Gerrard, as James has said already, has clearly bought into this “beat Celtic once and that’s it” nonsense and their criminal chairman admitted as much, so if he convinces a nobody manager, for that is what Gerrard is, then money wont necessarily be an issue.

Sevco fans are blowing up their own wee bubble.

What happens when that bubble bursts, as it surely will?

Over the summer, we’re going to find out.

And it will be fun to watch.

David Campbell is very much looking forward to a close season of disillusionment and pain in Sevconia …
