Aaaah you gotta love it.

Today Sevco fans are hotly debating their latest transfer rumour; that they are ready to offer Hearts a paltry £400,000 for Kyle Lafferty.

First, the figure is insulting. He is no world beater but he’s worth £1 million plus as an international.

Secondly, the assumption that Hearts would just roll over is typically arrogant.

But it’s the idea itself that amuses me, that and the way some of them are defending it to each other. Lafferty was one of the guys who ran out of Ibrox as fast as he could get his boots on the moment it became clear that Rangers was a goner. These guys could have stayed a month or two and got the Newco some nice fat transfer fees but they pissed off at the first opportunity and the Ibrox supporters swore never to forgive them for that.

McGregor is at Ibrox already. Ibrox Noise has already declared its support for Lafferty to follow him there. In their desperation they are willing to forgive the most egregious of past sins, the most spectacular of betrayals, and that alone tells you how far out on the ledge they are. Principles? What are they worth now at Ibrox? The club just signed a woman beater who’s still on a community service order because was available for free.

What price integrity now? What price dignity? They’ve been reduced to going cap in hand to the men who sold the old club down the river, and offering them inflated salaries to come and be part of one last desperate roll of the dice.

I understand putting the old band back together. Or I could if these folks had been able to stop Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the final year. But I could have sworn these were the same people who blew a commanding lead in that campaign and allowed us to be top by Christmas, just in time for the spectacular unfolding of the disaster.

Imagine this is true.

A club going after the likes of Lafferty isn’t seriously going to touch us, is it?

I mean, for openers you get the impression that between this guy and the Roma loanee they are gearing up to accept the first offer that comes in for Morelos.

And it won’t be a Chinese fortune.

If this is what they think makes them better … I am dumbfounded.

Having a bit of the True Blue spirit … they really do believe it’s all that it takes. You could get eleven people out of the stand and they’d give 100% … they also lose heavily to the lowest rank professional team. Anyone who believes in this nonsense is a mug.

But it’s the dearth of original thinking here, the lack of a clue how to move forward, that stands out most. Sevco is reaching into the latter years of Rangers for its inspiration. It’s why so many fans wanted Walter Smith back at the helm.

But the game has moved on. It’s not the club Smith presided over and we are not the same club either. It’s been six years since the collapse of Rangers and these Peepul still haven’t grasped what that means. The party’s been over a long time and the band is way passed its best. It will be hilarious watching these decrepit has-beens trying to squeeze one last buck out of the brand. Their encore might literally bring the house down but not in the way Sevco fans intend.
