It’s Good Celtic Fans Have Patience. The New Players Are Coming.

We all know the games that Sevco and the MSM play, trying to promote them and disparage us.

But the SMSM are becoming even more snakey about it.

The Sevconuts are falling over themselves to point out that we haven’t strengthened yet, forgetting Lewis Morgan and Odsonne Eduoard, and forgetting that well run clubs deal with out of contract players first and decide who is leaving before deciding who to buy.

Unlike some clubs we don’t need radical surgery and big promises to sell season tickets.

What is happening though is that a certain club’s friends in the MSM are putting out articles and pieces that are backhandedly agreeing, but in such a way that they feel they have a a get out as it always ends with, “Celtic will strengthen, of course” or words to that effect.

The headlines scream one thing, the article ends with another.

What this is meant to do is promote their favourite team and put doubt in the minds of others, Celtic fans included.

They are meant to make people think we are falling behind.

It also gives them the chance to say that, when we do bring in players, that it’s not enough or they aren’t the required quality.

Don’t buy into it. It’s crap.

We need about three or four signings maximum.

One should be a centre half .

Our issues last season came, in my opinion, from the fact the we didn’t have a settled pair until the latter stages of the season.

Dedryck Boyata and Kris Ajer became quite solid. Boyata might not have impressed the hacks or some in the stands, but he was put in the Belgian World Cup Squad, and they are one of the top teams at the tournament.

I also like big Jozo, but his injuries are a huge concern.

So yes, a centre back, with Euro experience, would be e benefit, no doubt.

A full back who can cover left and right … that’s hard to get, but a good strong journeyman would be fine here, there’s no need to break the bank.

A ball playing midfielder, someone who will go straight into the team and of European quality.

This, in my view, is where the real money should be spent.

A striker, yes we have Odsonne now, Dembele and Griff too, but for the amount of games we will have I think a backup would be prudent.

Given however we have Morgan and Eddy already, and with our centre halves not as bad as has been said, if we only got the fullback cover and the midfielder, I wouldn’t be too disappointed.

We also have to get some off the wage bill though; we have 15 midfielders, that’s too much. It’s not financially prudent, and the quality isn’t actually there with a lot of the backup midfielders.

What needs to be remembered in this also; we are not in the market for dross, we are looking for better quality, possibly World Cup players. Certainly not players who would bite the hand off any team who came along as they won’t get any better.

You know the sort – and even some of the names – I’m talking about.

One last thing must be taken into account too; “In Brendan we trust.”

Our manager deserves the club’s and the fan’s trust.

He is on the ball.

David Campbell is refusing to panic over the apparent lack of signing progress … faith in the club and the manager is the key.
