Does anyone want to tell me what the point in Scottish football having rules is?

Today more news about how Sevco is expected to flutter around the edges of those rules to bring two players here on loan. Neither player meets the qualifying criteria for a work permit. That is not expected to get in the club’s way.

They don’t meet the qualifying criteria for a European license this season. That hasn’t stopped the SFA passing them.

You know, I could understand if they were trying to buy these guys, but when do work permit requirements get waived for players coming here on short term deals? Yet the media tells us both are “expected” to win appeals on this matter.

Well of course they are.

This is Sevco.

And it’s almost certain the work permit regulations will be torn up for them as they pursue what Derek Johnstone laughably today called “their best squad in a decade.”

A smaller club wouldn’t be able to do this. We know that. A smaller club with two applications pending would be certain to lose at least one of them, and probably both. But why do I get the distinct impression that the media is right on this one and that neither player has anything to worry about? Both played a mere dozen games last season … the Malawian midfielder will also be coming in to the most jam-packed part of the Sevco side.

Last season they got work permits for two Mexican players who barely kicked a ball.

Those work permit slots had to be appealed for, and the club got them. Those two are still on the Ibrox books right now, and before they’ve even moved them on they want more exceptions made for them. This mob literally have no shame whatsoever.

I find it all amusing. Starved of the real resources he was clearly promised, Gerrard is assembling a rag-bag team on the cheap. The media pretends not to have noticed that. Johnstone’s comments in the Evening Times today are quite ridiculous, even in the context of the nonsense that is usually talked about this team of theirs.

Nobody outside of Ibrox and the bubble that surrounds them is impressed by all this.

I am, however, impressed by their continuing ability to get around the rules.

That really is quite something.
