Today, Michael Gannon – the hack who thinks he’s so important that he puts his name in the headline of every article – of The Daily Record has become the latest Sevco media sock puppet to do a piece attacking Murdoch MacLennan of the SPFL.

And as with Chris Jack’s puerile, spiteful, little piece last week it is a mixture of insinuation and personal insults, with not one single stand-out fact that would change a single person’s mind. The Sevco PR team had hoped to get some traction from the Jack piece; aside from drawing mockery it was generally ignored, especially by its target audience, the clubs, who want damn all to do with an Ibrox inspired witch-hunt.

So this is Part 2.

I am guessing this will also be ignored by the people running clubs.

They have better things to do than indulge the lunatics running the asylum over at Ibrox. Why doesn’t the media have better things to do? Scottish clubs returned to Europe last night, a new domestic campaign is almost upon us. But this is the nonsense they are focussed on?

So what’s Gannon’s beef?

Before we get to that, let’s cover the gutter-level of his argument; using the kids rescued from a mine-shaft in Thailand as an intro to attacking a guy he doesn’t like. Who does that? How do the minds of these people work? Have Gannon’s bosses ever heard of journalistic standards?

(The answer is sort of suggested by the question I guess; if they did Gannon wouldn’t be working for them in the first place.)

So what is his argument, dressed up in rags though it is?

That MacLennan hasn’t been seen in public. This is the same pathetic, weak, line of attack Jack was using. It’s almost as if Gannon has the same hand up his arse, doesn’t it? And perhaps he does, although I hope Jim Traynor had the good grace to wash it first.

Gannon at least reads this blog; one of the criticisms I had with Jack’s piece is that the same criticism is never levelled at Alan McRae (I actually had to Google his name because I had clean forgotten who the President of the SFA was). Gannon deals with that by brushing it aside, and using the excuse that the guy who runs all of Scottish football (I thought that was Peter Lawwell?) “isn’t trusted” in front of the media. As if that itself is nothing at all.

“There are times you need to front up – and this is one of them. (Sevco) have created enough stink about the SPFL chair seat and he is the only one who can attempt to pull out a can of air freshener,” Gannon writes, apparently in all seriousness, not realising that the word “stink” is by far the most appropriate one in the sentence.

Because the whole thing stinks. It stinks of barely concealed bigotry. It stinks of the paranoid ward. It stinks of Sevco trying to cover its own calamities by trying to focus the media story elsewhere. Where’s Gannon’s piece about the unfolding disaster which threatens to wreck Sevco’s commercial operations? Has he been asleep in his own bunker?

He, too, dredges up the alleged Private Eye comment, but adds the delicious detail that this is supposed to have happened 30 years ago.

Read that again. Supposed to have happened 30 years ago.

Isn’t this absolutely gutter level pathetic? Isn’t it disgusting? Isn’t it skin-crawlingly embarrassing that the media is focussed on this flim-flam? Where’s the big expose of Shay Logan – who has just accused Celtic fans of racial abuse on even less evidence than the media has for the MacLennan thing – and his tweet from a mere seven years ago, revealing his hatred for Celtic?

Not going there, are we? I didn’t think so.

“The SPFL can say it’s case closed but neither (Sevco) nor their support will accept it – especially when the governing body is still weighing through the sewage spill from 2012.”

The “sewage spill from 2012” was all down to one club and one club alone, and if that’s still being dealt with it’s because – shock horror – nobody wanted to deal with it at the time, and that includes Gannon and the arse-rag he works for. It was all “move on” then and it’s “move on” now. Well tough, because no-one’s moving on until this thing is done.

But the MacLennan thing is done already. The clubs aren’t interested in pursuing this because it is of zero relevance to them. They know if MacLennan is doing a good job or not. They know if he is playing with a straight bat. They see him at close quarters.

“Neither (Sevco) nor their support will accept it …” is the line that stands out though.

And I say again what I have before; this is closed. The SPFL has said that nothing is going to happen. There is nothing to see. There is no case to answer. Sevco and its fans have two choices, to like it or lump it because what else are they going to do? All of this is nothing but hot air and Gannon has just added a fart to the wind.

Because Sevco’s wailing and squealing and shrieking over this has no teeth and everyone knows it.
