Why Does The Record Have To Manufacture A Strip Story? There’s A Real One They Won’t Write.

Today Record Online is running one of its most nonsensical stories yet; how Celtic’s new third strip has “divided opinion” amongst the fans.

It is bullshit, taking a few random tweets from people who don’t like the design, and attempting to make an issue out of them.

The same tactic was tried when we unveiled the new home kit, in a dazzling launch which had “professional” written all over it. We never get praise for any of that stuff.

I find it fascinating though that the media places such great store on how supporters feel about kits, because they missed the story of the week and it was on that very subject; Sevco fans, continuing to fume over not being able to buy even the home strip.

Their own gruesome third kit – the orange one – is already on sale in Turkish bazaars but nowhere else.

It will be one of the first times that fakes flood the market before the actual bona fide item is out there on general sale – that usually only happens with “screener versions” of new release movies – and Hummel must be climbing the walls.

If today’s Record headline was an effort to put a dent in sales of our strips, I don’t think officials at New Balance will lose much sleep over it.

But if Phil’s story of Friday is correct – and more on that tomorrow, believe me – Sevco’s kit manufacturers are grievously concerned about the situation.

They ought to have spoken to Puma before signing any contracts; King simply cannot be trusted to behave properly or do anything right.

Sevco is in a world of trouble over their latest fiasco, and the media seems to not want to go near either the story nor to examine the implications of it.

This is not surprising, but it is shocking.

It is another clear-cut example of our tabloid hacks manufacturing news just because they don’t want to cover an actual story.

It is shameful, but they cannot be shamed.
