The Moon Howling Player Comparisons Which Should Make The Scottish Media Cringe With Embarrassment.

Earlier in the week, in the press, Joe Aribo was being compared to Jay Jay Okocha.

This is after one good game for his country.

One.

And he’s being hailed as the equal to one of the finest footballers that his country has ever produced.

Somebody suggested I do an overview of these, and I thought “why not?”

I’m not going to labour this point, I am gonna make this a relatively light article, but I want to highlight the way these ridiculous comparisons keep coming up over and over again.

Some of these will take your breath away.

As I said, I want to keep the reading light, because there are loads of these.

And each one seems to be more ridiculous than the last.

Joe Aribo And Ya Ya Toure

Let’s start with another Aribo comparison, when he “opened up” on the comparisons to Ya Ya Toure, and talked about how he’s also compared at times to Patrick Viera … and who exactly was making these ridiculous comparisons?

The Ya Ya Toure one was him talking about himself, believe it or not, and how he “studied” the City player’s game. The Viera comparison? Who the Hell knows, but he’s not the only Ibrox midfielder who’s been cast in that mould ….

Glen Kamara And The Former Arsenal Midfield General

Don’t even ask me who the source of this utter idiocy is, but that The Daily Record printed it should come as no surprise whatsoever. The French midfielder is one of the finest footballers of his generation. Glen Kamara was subbed at half time at Ibrox against Celtic, looking absolutely out of his depth, which is no surprise considering he was at Dundee before that, who signed him on a free.

Comparisons like this do nobody any favours … least of all the credibility of journalists and papers.

Defender Katic Is Compared To World Class Attacking Midfielder

Absolutely bonkers this one, the one where Nikola Katic, a central defender, is compared to the world class attacking midfielder Luka Modric, based on that fact that both had done a trial with the same club.

Does it get more ridiculous than this?

Well, actually, yes it does …

Connor Goldson Compared To Multi-Million Pound City Defender

John Stones is one of the most expensive players in history, and he is a prime example of a young footballer showing that he can measure up and make the huge leap from a middling club to one at the very top of his game.

He deserves great credit for it.

He deserves better, by far, than to shoddy comparisons with a two-bob Ibrox defender who has proved time and time again that he doesn’t have what it takes even to play in the SPL.

That Famous Ryan Kent Comparison …

Kyle Lafferty and the now notorious shower scene where he whispered sweet nothings in the ear of Ryan Kent.

“You could be that good,” he said … thankfully only in comparison to Eden Hazard.

Yes, the Real Madrid player and one of the finest footballers anywhere on the planet.

This was the bottom of the barrel being scraped … but someone had already beaten them to it, of course, with one of the daftest comparisons yet …

Borna Barasic And A “Left Foot Like Messi” ….

I mean Good God!

Who would ever get away with writing this kind of toilet paper stuff if it wasn’t in the Scottish press.

Nobody else, no credible media, anywhere would touch this stuff.

His former manager asked Gerrard why he wasn’t taking free-kicks and this was the headline they stuck on it.

Doubtless this muppet felt totally justified when Barasic scored a free kick goal against St Mirren earlier this season.

Still, Lionel Messi … Jesus wept.

Helander As Good As Virgil Van Dijk … In Their Dreams

Remember Helander, do you? He’s the Ibrox defender who cost between £3 – 4 million this summer, if you believe what you read in the papers.

And before he’d even kicked a ball (has he kicked a ball yet?) he was being compared to Virgil Van Dijk.

You know, ex Celtic player, and UEFA’s Defender of the Year for last season?

A “carbon copy” this idiotic piece from The Sun said.

Man oh man.

Morelos Is Better Than Dembele … And Will Fetch More Money

James Black, the Ibrox blogger, came up with this beauty.

Not only is there no chance whatsoever that Morelos will go for that kind of cash, but Dembele is three or four times the footballer, as his goals and his performances in matches where it matters prove over and over again.

It’s not for nothing that he got his big money move to Lyon, or that Morelos still languishes in the SPL.

And what’s worse for Huffy is that he’s nowhere near to being the best striker in the league now that Dembele is left, because Edouard holds that title and Griffiths after him and we’re not even sure yet what kind of footballer Bayo is going to turn out to be …

Defoe Compares The Colombian Whinger To Harry Kane

Has Jermaine Defoe even watched Harry Kane?

I am not the biggest lover of the EPL prototype player but that guy is one of the finest strikers I’ve seen the game – anywhere – produce in a long, long time.

Kane has the lot, and he’s nowhere near at his peak, nowhere near the finished article.

He will end up at a Madrid or a Barca if he doesn’t win up at City first, who clearly think he’s a good possible replacement for Aguero.

Which tells you how good he is and can still be.

This comparison is risible and you wouldn’t think it could get any worse, but actually the last two of these are the worst of the lot.

The Morelos Wayne Roony/Crisitiano Ronaldo Comparison …

As crazy as it sounds, Morelos was being compared to two of the finest players in recent European history because he got to the 100 goal mark faster than they did. This has to be one of the worst of all the articles because it seems to be suggesting that we’re watching a talent on a par with those two. Except for a couple of things.

Rooney earned all his goals in the EPL and Europe, with Everton and Manchester United. Ronaldo earned his 100 goals at Sporting Lisbon and the Old Trafford club. Top class sides at the very peak of European football, in tough, competitive leagues. Morelos scored in Finland and Scotland, and will most probably be stuck here for a while yet.

Truly wretched stuff, this, from the media … but there’s one more to come.

Tavernier “As Good As Ronaldo And Messi” In Some Parallel Universe

Listen, this article was about “one key stat.” I don’t care whether that was stat was how many boiled potatoes a person can carry on a wooden spoon … Tavernier does not belong in the same sentence as Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Not in a footballing context.

They may play in the same sport but to say they are leagues apart is an understatement so vast he might as well be a baseball player.
