You just knew it would come to this, didn’t you? You just knew that it would end this way. The moment Sevco revealed the shuddering, rotten, heart of darkness at the centre of their club by exploiting sickness and death you knew what it would eventually lead to.

Where else, but to the inevitable Ibrox title claim.

Let’s be honest, people who see opportunity in human misery and suffering are capable of anything.

They can bend the world into whatever shape justifies their objectives.

They will dispense with such annoyances and inconveniences as logic, truth, reason and other concepts which do not help them achieve their aims.

Like Johnson and Gove dismissing not only advice they didn’t like but the whole spectrum of expert opinion itself during the Brexit debate, Sevco’s ability to insist that the world is what they would like it to be rather than what it is should not be dismissed as merely delusional; it is fundamental to the nature of their club.

It is cynicism on a grand scale.

It elevates the art of dishonesty to Wagnerian heights of grandeur.

It was Adolf Hitler himself who brought the idea of “the big lie” into modern thinking.

Writing in Mein Kampf, he argued that liars who go large have a natural advantage over the rest of the population in that most of us are not so brazen as to wilfully peddle such untruths, and that the psychological shock to our system is so great that it makes us doubt what we know to be true.

“(With) the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility … they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts … may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver … For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world.”

This is the way Sevco thinks; this is a common trait across the far-right political parties of the world and if the strategy wasn’t so successful it would be laughable.

I cannot believe the way Ibrox infects people, more surely than coronavirus itself. I cannot believe that people like Michael Beale have always been so brazenly, and shamelessly, cynical that they would stoop low enough to try and manufacture an Ibrox title claim out of a global disaster.

But I’ve seen that club and the one that inhabited the stadium before them do this to people time and time again. It’s something inside the walls, a creeping sickness, and all the evidence suggests that it is highly contagious.

This club really doesn’t care about anything else in the world but itself.

It has not even tried to maintain dignity and comportment here; it couldn’t wait to go scrabbling about in the gutter.

Lennon had to be asked the title question a half dozen times before he answered it, and he did it honestly, but our club itself has made no statement except to insist that safety of our fans and our players comes first … Sevco, with no skin in the game, made a demand that they knew to be wholly incompatible with reality in the pursuit of scoring cheap points.

Now it wheels out one of its coaches to insist that it would be “fair” to judge the season based on a cross section of the previous results when just days ago they wanted them all voided. And what do you know; the cross section they’d like to see used opens up the title challenge they could not sustain on the park. With no apparent recognition of the contradiction between these views, and where even the pretence of caring about Hearts and others is dispensed with.

That people are scared, that some are sick, that others are dying as they try to manufacture far-fetched scenarios such as these to press their fraudulent case does not bother them one iota.

On top of this, Sevco hides Gerrard like a political hostage lest he be asked the same question about Liverpool, because he and they are terrified of the answer he would inevitably have to offer up and thus the clear dishonesty and spiteful intent behind their latest pronouncements become too clear-cut to ignore.

This club will stop at nothing.

They are beyond belief.
