Well the summer of waiting for activity in the transfer market is well and truly over, as Celtic have two medicals booked for tomorrow and prepare to roll out the welcome mat for Ajeti and Barkas. This will bring our summer contingent to three, if you are counting the re-signing of Elyounoussi.

These guys will enhance our team.

We need a top quality keeper and we’ve gone out and spent big money on one and I can only applaud the club for that.

This might be the marquee signing, the one that I said we should make every year.

It’s not a sexy position but it’s an essential one and he’ll be a starter.

There are rumours in England that Ajeti may be having doubts about the move north of the border; this might be the genesis of the news reports about us looking at Sebastian Andersson.

I very much doubt that there’s any truth to that; the estimated cost if more than £5 million for a guy who’s 29.

That doesn’t fit the profile, does it?

I also doubt that we’ve booked a medical for player who doesn’t know what he wants.

Regardless, it’s the deal for Barkas which will have the greatest impact on perceptions of our club.

This is the most essential of all the summer moves – I remain puzzled as to why we need a striker unless one of the current crop is leaving, but we definitely need a keeper.

This should be the start of an exciting spell for the club.

We are pushing forward.

The next step is to bring in some cover at the back, and I going to do a piece on that in the next couple of days, about a few of the options that might represent good value for money.

For now, we are waiting on tomorrow and the good news that our deals are over the line.

Whatever comes after that, it’ll probably be after the first league business is done.
