Neil McCann thinks Celtic losing Fraser Forster could hand Sevco the title.
What a complete muppet this guy is. This is yet more ridiculous clutching at straws from this eejit. It is not a surprise to see him talking up Ibrox’s prospects, but someone really should call him out when he talks such nonsense. The BBC is too full of idiots like this.
This must be a slow news day for a claim like to make headlines, but does it actually stand up? The answer, you won’t be surprised to learn is no.
Last season, in the league, we conceded a mere 19 goals. That sounds terribly impressive when you say it like that. Has to be because of Forster, right? Actually, no. Because that was over 30 games, and the season before that we conceded only 20 in 38 matches.
And guess what? No Fraser Forster in goal.
“It’s the omission of Forster from that starting line-up that I think is absolutely huge,” he said. And then he added this beauty. “I look at the (Ibrox) squad and it is virtually unchanged – not a lot of changes other than one or two additions.”
What a fascinating way to look at it.
The “one or two additions” include two players, on full time deals, who were there last season, a kid barely out of his nappy and a 32-year-old central defender who’s played 20 games in two years to replace their first pick who’s going to be out injured for months.
Oh yeah, and a Sunderland keeper to replace their two backups, who both left.
One of the things that wins titles is being able to rely on a deep bench.
Celtic has let some fringe players go, but we remain very, very strong in most areas. Sevco has let go eight players and several others have gone to their parent clubs after their loan spells came to an end … so the squad isn’t exactly as “unchanged” as McCann seems to think.
It is also chronically short in certain areas, including up front, and if McCann is the last person in Scotland not to know that it shows how thick he is.
Of course, none of this takes into account that the transfer window is not yet closed, and indeed that it will be open for a full two months yet. So Sevco might yet plug some of those holes with crap loans and more over 30’s. Then again, Celtic is trying to find a keeper right now and when Lawwell stops with his games we should find ourselves with a good one.
And it might well be Fraser Forster himself.
So McCann is not only talking garbage, he’s talking easily dismissed garbage. He also thinks that lack of fans will hamper Celtic … presumably that would also hamper Sevco but he doesn’t seem to recognise that or want to explore it.
The man is an idiot. Radio Scotland insults its listeners having a clown such as this on there, talking this obvious rot.
