It’s Been A Bumper Day For Celtic Transfer Stories, But Which Are Actually True?

Well today has been one of those great days that the transfer rumour guys love so much, one where we’re linked with various players in various positions, and a host of sources claiming we’ve made this move or that one. It’s been a peach.

Some of the rumours are so old they should have gone out of copyright.

Steven Fletcher is a name that surfaces every year and even as a backup most fans would be pretty unimpressed if we were to go out and squander money on him, and James McCarthy is a story that comes up so often you could set your transfer window clock to it.

Are either of those rumours true? Lennon gave some credence to the Fletcher rumour by refusing to deny it the other day, when I had hoped that he would. McCarthy seems unlikely at best, as he would still command a big transfer fee and a hefty salary.

On top of that, why in the Hell would we want a midfielder at the current time, when other areas need addressing?

The winger Niclas Eliasson has been linked with us today, and I would take him in a second. He’s out of contract at the end of this campaign and seems unlikely to agree a new deal with Bristol City; he’s a fantastic player who may want to chance his arm elsewhere. The possibility of us snapping him up for a reduced fee should be too good to resist, and I’d be pretty amazed if we weren’t at least trying for him. But at the moment it’s all just speculation.

The Record is linking us with another winger, Kristijan Lovric, on the basis that he seems to want the move and we were linked with him once before. There seems to be no other basis for the story than that, so we can ignore that one quite confidently.

David Colina, a left back at Hadjuk Split is allegedly on the transfer targets list and apparently we’ve not been put off by the £3 million asking price. You’d have to say Bolingoli would be pretty much done at the club if we signed this guy, and maybe at a loss.

There are whispers about Toney continuing and reports suggest that Lennon himself has opened talks with Ajeti to give him the little push he needs to get a deal over the line. That one seems to have legs and is being widely reported as fact.

This website did predict that deal might still go through, although we were being encouraged to believe the player himself didn’t fancy the move to Celtic. It was bollocks. The issue was between him and West Ham. If that’s resolved he’ll probably be on his way.

The frustration here is that none of this is more than speculation … and none of it includes anything about potential signings at central defence … which is where most of us recognise is the area of greatest need.

We continue to wait for word on that.
