One Deal Done, And Another Big One On The Horizon … This Might Be A Good Week After All.

Celtic have completed the signing of Albian Ajeti, as we all know.

But the week – which started off in a pretty rank manner – might be about to get even better with the news that we are, after all, in the race to sign Shane Duffy, although this would initially be on a one-year loan.

Duffy would be the answer to all of our prayers at central defence.

Earlier in the week, when this was just a rumour, The Rumour Guy did a piece on him and I am inclined to agree that Duffy ticks all the boxes, and in particular he’s the sort of big bruiser we’ve been looking for.

He would enhance the squad, and no mistake.

Indeed, he would be a first team starter who I’d expect to be a big part of the ten in a row campaign.

This wouldn’t be a guy for leaving on the bench; he’d be a crucial component in Lennon 3-5-2 plan.

I can’t think of a better way to fully lift the gloom at Celtic Park than to get that sort of deal done.

Duffy’s signing would answer a lot of questions and put the season back on the rails.

Experience, physicality, talent with the ball … and this guy gets it.

A Derry born die-hard Celtic man, who better than to shepherd this defence through the campaign? We need guys like this, guys who will dig in on those days we need to grind it out, a defender who can bully forwards … but also other defenders. A genuine penalty box presence at both ends.

It’s the kind of signing that will lift the fans, give us competition in a key area, lift the club after a tough week and show the kind of intent we all need to see from the board.

Even as a one year loan (hopefully with an option to buy) this one is a no-brainer.
