Reports from France tonight suggest that Odsonne Edouard has tested positive for Covid-19 and is in isolation from the rest of the national squad. We do not know any more details than this; he was tested on Tuesday whilst away with their Under 21 team and has had a positive test. Celtic tests its players regularly, but we don’t know yet what this means.

This is the nightmare scenario, folks, and there’s no way to sugar coat that. He is not symptomatic, so that probably means we can isolate this only to him … but every player at our club will need to be very strictly monitored to make sure they are alright.

Eddie is almost certainly out of the game against Sevco; that’s the one thing we can probably say for sure. The period for self isolation in Scotland is 10 days from when symptoms start; Eddie has not shown symptoms. This was picked up in a squad-wide test.

But we have to operate on the assumption that he won’t feature.

The real worry – as if that’s not enough – is that other members of the squad might be affected as well. If they are we’re looking at a very significant problem here and something that is going to throw our plans for the Sevco game into total disarray.

Listen, there’s no real reason to panic here yet. The international break has come at a good time as far as this is concerned. He is not the first major player at a major club to test positive; the show goes on. What we all should do is wish the big guy as speedy a recovery as possible.

That, for this evening, will be enough. Fingers crossed and pray.

All the best Eddie, and get well soon.
