The press cannot make up its mind about Odsonne Edouard.

If you believe what you are reading today we’ve suffered a massive blow as he’s likely not to play in any Champions League qualifiers which we might play, because he’s probably going to be in the French Olympic Squad. This might well be true, but this story fails to account for several things.

First, what kind of blow will it be? If Ajeti, Griffiths and Klimala are all fit we’re not going to be short of firepower, are we?

By the time the next Champions League qualifiers come around I expect Ajeti to be firing on all cylinders.

Secondly, we don’t even know if there will be an Olympics next summer …

I have to say that it seems unlikely at the moment, although the vaccine seems to be on the way.

It certainly won’t have been injected into everyone’s arm before then … and that makes holding a global sports event an extremely dicey prospect and there’s every chance it’ll get called off.

Third, will Edouard even be at Celtic Park then? It amazes me that the same outlets who are calling this a problem are the same ones who’ve been determined that he’ll be gone long before those games come about. I suspect they are right.

It would be amazing to see Edouard stay at the club a little bit longer. It would be amazing to see him sign a new deal and commit to one more season after this one, but it seems unlikely and the media never tires of reminding us of that.

Edouard is one player in this team; the media likes to ignore that too.

Most Celtic fans expect that he will go along with a few others, as we try to move this team towards the next evolution. If we win this title it’s the right time to break this squad up … if we don’t win it, the whole club will have to change, and nothing will be the same again.

To me, this Edouard stuff is a complete non-story, the media trying to get us worked up about a situation which is not relevant to where we are right now and is subject to so many changes and possible variations that it’s not worth the worry.
