Amongst the many distinctions Scotland has at the moment is that it’s one of the only regions on this island where there has been a slight uptick in the number of virus cases in the last few weeks.

This will not have surprised a single person with a functioning brain cell.

When Steven Gerrard praised the lawbreaking fans who stood on a hill overlooking the ground at Livingston that was the open invitation those who gathered at Ibrox that weekend needed. His decision to offer them further encouragement before and after his team’s last league game directly fed into the events of the following day.

Now we are seeing the consequences of that in the daily figures, and most alarmingly of all we now find out that amongst those most affected by this rise are serving police officers who were working amidst those scenes.

Now, we can all criticise the police for letting things get that far in the first place, and we can certainly criticise those who posed for selfies and other such nonsense instead of actually enforcing the law, but this is shocking nonetheless.

David Hamilton, of the Police Federation, has been growing increasingly angrier about all this as time has passed and he was furious when he spoke to the BBC.

“This is entirely predictable and, of course, most of these officers will not have been vaccinated.

It is everything we warned about. Our call is for people to reflect on those numbers and the impact it is having on the community through the lack of policing. We did not choose to be in George Square.

It is something we had to do and it is part of our role.”

Over 30 officers are currently in self-isolation as a result of this.

What a scandal it is that the Peepul thought they could jeopardise public safety in this shocking way to “celebrate” their first title.

Whilst this blog comments only on football related issues, it was equally abysmal to see St Patricks Day parties in the parks where social distancing was being ignored, but even there we have a number of not so subtle differences; on top of the breaches of the government health protocols The Peepul also vandalised property and fought with each other and the police.

Nothing justifies their goonish, loutish behaviour … and all the Whataboutery in the world will not change the simple fact that they behaved disgracefully.
