The transfer deadline for the Copenhagen game is in eleven days.

The game is in sixteen days. Players will need time to come in, and bed in.

Some might even need to quarantine. It’s now or never. This week has to see signings being made.

We’ve got one deal over the line, but it’s nowhere near enough. We need at least another two, and maybe even three, signings to feel confident about the coming game. This is the most unprepared we’ve been in my living memory.

It’s simply not good enough to risk everything with the current squad, especially with the stakes so high.

Where do we need signings most?

I don’t think we need to be pushing the boat out too much for Aaron Hickey as yet. We should sign another centre back, and a right back though, if that can be done.

Assume Ajer is gone by then. We are badly short in that position.

Assume too that Edouard goes by then.

We need that penalty box player. You all know I am frustrated at not getting a deal done for Wyke. Whether it’s him or Nisbett from Hibs, we need a striker signed in the next seven days. Three players at least.

I don’t think we need a goalkeeper.

We have a £5 million one sitting around, a player who the last manager threw under the bus but who this one might have a modicum more respect for.

The news today that Mat Ryan is probably joined Real Sociedad on loan doesn’t give me any real cause for concern; that always struck me as paper talk because the manager has worked with him before.

We are still linked with the Croatian centre back.

The latest George Baldock story suggests that we have a number of alternative targets in mind.

Good. He is likely to be too expensive anyway and we need more bang for our bucks.

We should move on and go for someone else, and try to get the deal done as quickly and professionally as we can.

There are tasks that simply won’t wait for us, and this entire summer has been squandered.

We have eleven actual days left before the registration deadline, and sixteen until the game, but if you consider that foreign signings have to quarantine we probably have a week … the coming week.

We cannot afford to waste it as we have so much else.
