After Last Night’s Gutless Display Martindale Should Focus On His Issues, Not Celtic’s.

David Martindale was quite chipper when he talked to the media on Tuesday.

He was pleased with his side getting their first league win of the season. He was in the mood to gloat.

He was in the mood to stir the soup a wee bit and try to make trouble for Ange and Celtic.

His comments on Ange not having his own coaches were clearly designed to create controversy and sow a little disharmony in the stands at Celtic.

They were also pig-ignorant garbage, paying no heed whatsoever to what our manager has said on this issue.

This week we recruited a new head of sports science; crucially, this is the key area Ange talked about wanting to see some fresh blood in.

He has gotten his wish. Martindale either doesn’t know that or he doesn’t care.

I suspect he doesn’t care.

He saw an opportunity and seized it.

That’s all this guy is, a shameless character sniping from the side-lines.

Our friend Joe McHugh at VideoCelts likes to remind people that he’s a former drug dealer who did time in jail but somehow passed the SFA fit and proper person test. This wasn’t some period in ancient history here; he was convicted in 2006.

He did four years. He got out just in time to see his beloved Rangers go under.

Yes, Martindale’s allegiances are well known.

He’s a former Ibrox youth player, and whenever he talks about the current Ibrox club you can see his eyes glaze over.

He frequently snarks at Celtic, and takes a perverse pleasure in getting results against us.

It’s just a shame for his club’s supporters that his record, overall, isn’t terribly great.

He has a 39% win ratio; he has 15 defeats in 41 games.

His latest was last night, at the ground of the club he loves so much. It was an insipid, gutless performance.

Over the course of 90 minutes his side did not register a single shot at goal. Not one. Not on or off target.

In a cup quarter final, with a place at Hampden up for grabs.

It was a pathetic performance against a team which is there for the taking.

At this moment in time Livingston have four points from their first six league games.

They are one point off the relegation zone, one point off the bottom of the table.

His team faces a tough October, ending with a trip to Celtic Park.

I strongly suspect he’ll not be quite so jovial by the time that one comes around, and he certainly won’t be laughing when it’s over.

If I were him, I would cease the attempts to bait people at Celtic Park and focus on his own club and their own problems.

I don’t think he’s going to last the season, and to be honest Scottish football shouldn’t be entertaining someone with his record in the first place.

It makes a mockery of our sport and any standards the SFA is even pretending to uphold.
