Ian Maxwell’s Comments On The Ibrox Media Issues Are Worthless And Gutless.

HAMPDEN

Ian Maxwell spoke to the press today about the midweek decision at Ibrox to ban Sutton and Lennon from their press area, calling it “another negative story about Scottish football.”

It is nothing of the sort, and the SFA CEO should not be dragging the rest of the game into this gutter with the club which is at fault.

This, right here, is part of the problem.

The Scottish game only suffers reputational damage from incidents like this if those who run it refuse to call it out for what it is.

This disgrace belongs to one team and Maxwell should have said that, and been hard on them. Instead, he widens their shame to cover the rest of us.

No wonder nobody respects these people. How can you?

All this guy had to do was point the finger where it belonged and he’s failed to do it. His comments are pathetic.

No wonder Ibrox thinks it can do whatever it wants.

That club is not going to reform until it is made to suffer the consequences of its actions, and how do you get to that if you can’t even talk straight and communicate clearly on the matter?

Aside from those comments, Maxwell says that these aren’t governance issues.

Is he taking the piss? TV companies pour millions into the game, and if clubs are telling them who they can and cannot send to cover matches they will eventually wonder why they should bother.

Ibrox is already threatening a major sponsorship agreement. T

his kind of conduct may eventually weaken the television contracts.

If that’s not a governance issue then I don’t know what is.

When does the SFA come out from under the bed?

This is Scottish football’s leadership hiding from its responsibilities, it’s as simple as that. Maxwell and the rest of them are absolutely gutless.

Ibrox does this stuff because it can, because these people will not stand up and face them down.

This is the SFA’s senior official dragging the rest of us into their disgrace and then saying “It’s not actually our problem.”

What a cowardly response that is.
