As Ibrox Goes Scattergun Nobody In The Media Thinks It’s A Joke Anymore.

For years now, certain persons with Scotland’s sporting media have shied away from aggressively reporting on Ibrox out of fear.

That has kept them in line.

They have watched as their colleagues have been targeted and flayed. They have seen social media firestorms consume people in their profession, launched as wars of vendetta by the craziest of that club’s fans.

I have no doubt that in the course of events, some of them even found it funny.

When Chris McLaughlin was banned from Ibrox the BBC stood by their man in refusing to cover live matches there. But his colleagues took a different lesson from the affair, and many upped the levels of sycophancy.

When Michael Stewart was kicked off the radio for a spell because he had upset the hierarchy over there, no-one came to his aid.

They all put down their heads and thanked God it wasn’t them.

But nobody is kidding themselves anymore that they can stay silent and stay hidden and hope that the soulless gaze of Ibrox doesn’t fall on them at some point.

They know now – all of them – that they are one misstep or misspeak away from that white hot spotlight and the pain that comes with it. Being banned is the least of their worries.

Because Ibrox’s deranged media and PR department is gun-crazy and on the rampage.

This is not target shooting, it’s a spree killing.

As one petrified characters says of Schindler’s Aemon Goeth, there is no code you can follow, no set of rules, that renders you truly safe … if you happen to get these maniacs on a bad day then you are toast.

Nobody in the press corps is kidding themselves on any longer, and even if it were not so, what’s the prize?

To be asked to pay £25,000 to sit in a room with shaven headed yobs and goons who stare at you as if you were a shit on the bottom of a shoe?

The media has to make a stand, as a collective, against this lunacy and refuse to give that club a scrap of publicity until it comes to heel … how much more of this routine degradation and humiliation are these people willing to stand for?

Nobody is laughing anymore, not anywhere in any news room, because this is no longer a joke and it’s no longer happening to someone else.

It’s happening to all of them.

It’s happening all the time and they either stand as one or they’ll be picked off that way … one by one by one until the last man standing is a fat git in a XXXL Castore top.

Decent point made until the last sentence. Why the need to attack people who are overweight? Adidas do xxxl too. Let’s stay inclusive and tolerant please.

  • REBELLIOUS says:

It’s now down to the government to attempt to keep this lot in line, the polis and the useless sfa have shown on multiple occasions that they’re NOT UP TO THE JOB.

As I’ve always said they need to penalise the club heavily, this in turn, will show their board and fans they cannot behave in this manner.

A precedent HAS to be set, or, it’s more of the same again and again.

They are anti-social, anti-football, anti-progress, and stinking rotten to the bone.
They are a menace to society, and they’re right about one thing…everybody hates them, and rightly so.

  • John mcghee says:

This newco club should be banned for a year but the corrupt sfa spfl would rather go after celtic than their own wee mason new club scottish football is rotten and corrupt to the core for sevco that scum at hampden should all be sacked on the spot and i also blame the celtic board and p.lawwell for staying silent in 2012 dirty cowards thats why dom mckay probabley walked eh.

I could not have put it better myself John you are 100% correct and that is the proper way to deal with it

  • Tommy McQuillan says:

The delusion at Ibrox used to be just their support but now it’s seeped into the club’s custodians too. This pathetic excuse that they couldn’t guarantee two pundits safety due to the club they used to lay for means they’ve made a rod for their own backs.

Whatever perceived wrongs they feel have been done to them have all happened because of inadequacy at boardroom level. Add to that a deranged support who consider themselves to be untouchable in the eyes of the law and you’re setting a very dangerous precedent.

The club have to face sanctions at domestic and European levels but the silence from the SFA and SPFL is deafening. They’re now going to reap what they’ve sown alongside the club itself. Add to that an overcompliant media and press corps enabling this club to get away with murder and you can see that the lunatics have definitely taken over the asylum.

There can no longer be any prevarication from the footballing authorities, Civic Scotland and our snivelling press corps and media, they have to condemn the unhinged actions of those making the decisions at Ibroxand no longer pander to the whims of a club so out of touch with reality. The time has come to make an example of Scotland’s shame on and off the park.

I think a blanket silence from the press would be the wrong move.
An across the board condemnation on every occasion for every racist comment and action (such as refusal of ex Celtic players attending their games, blue bears marches, etc) is what is required. Its needs to all in and united or this lot’s behaviour will get worse and worse until we live with North of Ireland behaviour.
Sad thing is they accept any small measure of condemnation from ebox as a change but then ‘fooled you’, we’re back. HH

  • Seppington says:

If they won’t comply with league rules then boot them oot!

    Simples.

If that leads to “civil unrest” (aye right nothing about those scumbags is civil) then round them up and jail them. Oh but that won’t happen because the polis are utterly rife with those same scumbags. Tell you what Ms. Sturgeon, deal with these hoodlums or forget me ever voting for you again. Sack all the polis (it’s been done before in other countries) and ban secret/bigoted organisations such as the Freemasons and Orange Order. Ban private schools whilst you’re at it and show us you really want to create an independent meritocracy and not just Engurlund v2.0

  • vinthetim says:

i assume bbc scotland et al will give the orange order, rangers etc. their fullsupport as per usual!!
