The Clarification On The Carter Vickers Celtic Clause Should Not Surprise Anybody.

According to Sky Sports News journalist Anthony Joseph, the Carter Vickers fee is closer to £6 million than it is to £10 million.

Steep, yes, and still a lot of money for the big man but he is quality and that fee is within our capabilities.

It is a far cry from the number that The Daily Record was running.

As per usual, one of their “exclusives” has turned out to be a pile of steaming dung. Anyone surprised at that is easily surprised. That story had more holes in it than the German front during the Stalingrad counteroffensive.

It was designed to stir the soup, nothing more.

The mysterious “clauses”, which the writer wouldn’t detail, could have contained anything, if they existed at all. It was a big claim at the time – big enough that some sites ran with it – but it contained not one verifiable fact.

It cited not one source.

It came down to the credibility of both the journalist who wrote it and the organ it appeared it.

Neither is up to much. Neither can be trusted.

So Anthony Joseph’s clarification on the matter doesn’t come as a huge surprise, and let’s be honest about that. He is a good source. He has the sort of contacts in England – and at Celtic – who could get him real information.

He has no need to simply make stuff up.

There is a lesson here in believing a single word that rag writes about us.

There is always something more going on with that newspaper.

There is a word to describe all these stories, and one that our manager has become very familiar with in a very short time, so much so that he used it yesterday. We’ll talk about that later.

How quickly he learns though, eah?

How slowly others do.
