Celtic Fans Shouldn’t Believe A Word Of The Stephen Welsh To Italy Stories.

Stephen Welsh was the brightest spot of last season’s Celtic team.

He emerged when we were looking for a player to put our faith in.

He has been excellent whenever has been called upon and he is a sterling member of the first team squad under Ange.

Christopher Jullien’s return to fitness does not change the fundamental importance of Welsh to this team. Unless the player is clamouring for a transfer – and I don’t believe for a second that he is – he remains a major part of this squad and the manager’s plans.

That’s why it is easy to dismiss stories, today, which suggest that Stephen Welsh is wanted by Italian clubs and we’ve “started the bidding” at £2 million. He is going to be a regular Scotland international soon, and we’re expected to believe this?

Welsh is going to develop into a top class centre half.

He is crucial to our European registrations as a first team player and a home grown talent.

That, on its own, is worth more than the £2 million fee being quoted.

The story is a nonsense. The Daily Record running with it is not a surprise.

The surprise would be if a living soul actually believed it. I don’t believe for a second that Welsh is going anywhere.

And I don’t believe that The Record has hard information to the contrary.

I think this is another case of them picking and choosing what they want to believe.

They treat their foreign counterparts as though they were iron clad; almost every story which comes from the press abroad is nonsense, written for its own clickbait audiences.

Common sense is all you need to apply here.

Welsh is a big part of the team Ange is trying to build. The guy was handed a new contract just last season. And he’s already played more games in a Celtic shirt than Patterson did in an Ibrox one … £2 million?

Please. Clear enough?

The story is garbage. Celtic fans shouldn’t even entertain it.

huns really are getti ng worried their pals in scottish media not slow in trying to unsettle the lad & the hoops fans….any member of 1st team squad is for sale but less than £10 million esp at this time of year with possible another treble on the horizon get real.

I like Welsh. And there is a lot more to come. But I am not sure that this story is wrong given the number of players incoming – 4 and counting. Plus the 13m due for CCV and Jota either now or in the Summer. Plus the Covid situation As yet there is no sign of offloading anybody like Soro, Bolingoli etc. I agree that 2m does not seem enough but it would not surprise me given the expanding wage bill

A rack of misleading and undermining stories will appear from now until February and beyond.

What a joke @ 2 million. If Patterson goes for 9 million then Welsh goes somewhere down the line for 9 million plus. But I think the lad wants to cement himself in the Celtic team and he has all the time in the world.

Typical bias nonsense from the daily rangers. Stories, and that’s exactly what that is nowt more than a fairytale, can cause a player unrest. They’ll stoop to any level to help the skint peepul. AS IF 2 MILLION, you cannot buy a player bit by bit. When I hear Stories like that it reminds me why I stopped buying that rag years ago.

When I saw the figure quoted, ah wiz pure lirrat. Pfffft. AYE RIGHT. Pure eggy bow.

With Jullien back we now have got good options at CB. I believe they are all decent including Starfelt and I wish Celtic fans who have digs at him would stop. He started poorly but got better then tailed off a little before the break. But he is a target. The number of times he got clugged and it went unpunished was a joke. He’s a good player, stick by him.

It seems to me that Welsh just needs to get a Scotland call up and put in a couple of decent performances and he’ll be worth £12M like Paterson. Bloody joke.

As ever, the SMSM has to speculate to fill the column inches – and especially during the winter break.

I’m just relieved that sevco sold Patterson, otherwise we could have been subjected to “Lyon in for Morelos!” – for the 26th time! 🙂

  • Tom Foolery says:

In fairness if we have a player who is down the pecking order from Starfelt then £2 million is about all we can expect.

  • John Gallacher says:

I totally disagree, this boy will never make a Celtic player. Also to state he has been excellent in every game… you have been watching a different game from me, he is deceptive, even slower than you think and possesses very little football ability.
2 Million ….grab it with both hands

    • richard mcbride says:

agree mate, gives me the same feeling i had when watching efe, will be a good player for the likes of aberdeen hibs etc but not what celtic need HH

  • john clarke says:

the sporting press are also talking-up celtic fc interest in mcgree. if this is true the board should be very circumspect with the contract plus extras and the type of player that will fit. …will he improve the team?. no doubt they will check his history.
charlotte (usa) have not yet played one game and they are attempting to profiteer. that’s what it’s all about. all the best to riley he is a fine player, yet he must stop the occasional rash kamikaze way of tackling. birmingham get the chequebook out! don’t you know a good player when you see one.
the sport journalists seem to follow each others leads
