Ibrox Claims To Be Earning What Celtic Will For Australia. Do Not Believe A Word Of It.

The claim, tonight, from “Ibrox sources” that their club will earn what we will from the Ange Ball Aussie Tour is risible nonsense and an obvious attempt to appease their own supporters.

They are relying on two things; the gullibility of the fans and their short attention span. Ibrox knows that by the time the facts on this emerge everyone will have moved on.

We’ve seen them pull this trick before and before and before.

We’ve heard this over shirt deals, sponsorship, merchandising and in other areas.

Ibrox “sources” tell the press that such and such a contract is massive and on a par with Celtic’s and it’s only later, when they publish accounts at the last available second a year down the line that you see that it was all a tissue of lies.

Celtic are the main event.

We were the first choice for the organisers, for obvious reasons.

We are the side being invited over there because we have the Australian boss.

The rest of is secondary stuff. The game isn’t the point.

The organisers have made it clear that it is Ange who is the main attraction and the only real show in town.

The game itself, Celtic has downplayed as almost an afterthought.

It isn’t, it’s a slap in the face insult to the supporters and those of us dead set against it aren’t finished banging the drum, not by a long shot. But the club itself doesn’t see it as a significant.

Of course we are earning more than Ibrox.

We’re the bigger club.

We’ll be going there as champions and maybe even treble winners.

We are the ones with the bigger football footprint, right across the world. Ibrox’s commercial director freely admitted this in the video they released … they would not normally be invited to these sorts of events.

Without us, they wouldn’t have been.

Without them, we’d still have been going.

This is one of the reasons so many of us are pissed off about it.

Ibrox’s board has been stung by the fury from their own supporters, and in their desperation to quell the anger they are willing to lie.

Of course they are.

They are willing to lie to their fans on a regular basis, and they’ve been caught doing it time and time again. They frequently lie to the media, and they’ve been caught doing it time and time again.

And somehow, they are still believed when they trot out this nonsense.

It is not even a month since Robertson told the press that the club thought it could break even for this campaign only for them to go back to their equity confetti just days later … you’d think the press and their supporters would be wise to being taken for absolute mugs.

The rest of us refuse to be. Don’t believe a word of this.

I have seen a lot of comments about us getting more but never seen a source suggested other that speculation because of Ange. That makes sense but isn’t proof. Can anyone point to any source?

As far as I can tell the dissenting hun source has discredited himself laughably as he is either lying through his teeth or being fed nonsense from within Ayebrokes and too gullible (shock!) to question it. So whilst I agree the game itself is a slap in the face…if it is true that we’re getting more than them (and I saw somewhere we’re getting £11m and they’re getting less than half that) then that is definitely a bigger slap in the dish to them, especially because it’s all about Ange and his (hopefully treble-winning) success at Celtic and they will be naught but a chump-change sideshow.
If Ange delivers the title then I would not be in the least surprised if they pulled out simply because being forced to watch us parade the trophy won by a man they all denigrated and laughed-off before a ball was even kicked is a boot-in-the-baws humiliation too far for the staunch. I’d like to hope that if, Heaven forbid, they somehow claw it back that we pull out and let them travel all the way to Oz by themselves to play to smaller crowds and a media that won’t really give a shit without Ange…

I didn’t believe a word from the media about 10 million (probably AUD$) and 4 mill, then 5 mill; to Celtic and Rangers respectively, in the first place. These numbers were made-up. Someone “pulled someone’s leg”… the message got legs, ran to Scotland and stirred-up the IBROX fans.
Don’t you think it is likely, that both clubs “put their heads together” and negotiated an equal pay-out with the promoters?. Why should it be otherwise?. Except for boxing, most entertainment contracts are Commercial-in Confidence. That’s what these games are, after all! Rangers vs Celtic is the crowd puller. Have a look where Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers are on the A league Table. The two Glasgow teams, full strength, would thrash both Sydney teams. There are more important games ahead that need anxiety management by IBROX Fans.
