Why is The Daily Record still trying to promote its “Gareth Bale to Glasgow” garbage? The story is a dead rubber. There is no prospect whatsoever of it happening. It is such a ridiculous idea that one of the Ibrox blogs has scorned it as stupid.

Read that again; one of the Ibrox blogs, the homes of the conspiracy theories and where they believe they have a £200 million squad, has written the story off as a ridiculous piece of fluff.

When you are still trying to push a story which even they have acknowledged as too daft ever to be debated seriously, you’ve strayed off the sensible path.

So in light of that, what is the purpose in trying to keep alive an idea so preposterous that even the lunatics won’t swallow it?

The Record has, today, released a follow up which might be amongst the most pitiful pieces of writing I’ve seen in many a year that didn’t have Joel Sked’s name on it.

The piece is about the A-List players who the press linked with, but of course didn’t sign for, Scottish teams … it’s a bit like you putting notches on the bedpost for all the people who knocked you back.

What is the point in an article like that? Who is its audience?

It’s The Record regurgitating all the times it previously wrote utter shit!

Like Messi to Rangers, like Beckham to Celtic, stories that I barely remember because they were so daft that I put them out of my head the minute I was finished reading them.

Ronaldinho to St Mirren?

Did that story even exist outside the febrile mind of a hungover hack on a Monday morning with nothing better to do?

So take a bow, Graeme Young, for what will surely be the worst article of the weekend … and I say that knowing full well that Keevins will be stepping up with his latest offering tomorrow.

The article is so weak that by the end he was resorting to shoving Gareth Bale’s name at the bottom of his list.

Honest to God, I hate international breaks because I know the media is going to write some truly dire stuff and I’m going to have to not only read it but cover it for the blog.

But this tests even those of us with strong stomachs and iron constitutions.

I get a headache just reading stuff as awful as this never mind having to write about it.

It’s embarrassing for people at national titles to be churning out this stuff.

That article wouldn’t have gotten published on all but a desperate blog.

I think there was actually a real possibility of Ronaldinho going to Sex Road at the time, he was only about 19 then and it was very nearly on. I could be wrong of course.
