The Media Has Some Balls To Be Criticising RB Leipzig As A “Counterfeit Club”.

Soccer Football - RB Leipzig v 1. FC Union Berlin - Red Bull Arena, Leipzig, Germany - April 23, 2022 1. FC Union Berlin's Christopher Trimmel celebrates with teammates after the match REUTERS/Annegret Hilse DFL REGULATIONS PROHIBIT ANY USE OF PHOTOGRAPHS AS IMAGE SEQUENCES AND/OR QUASI-VIDEO.

There was an amazing series of stories in the press yesterday, a series of stories which I couldn’t help but laugh about.

The irony of them was too much.

They were about a counterfeit football team. A team that invented itself. A team with no real history. A team that is a corporate creature, a vanity project, a club just emerging from its first decade in existence. A club which is widely disliked by the other clubs around it, who know that it has no business existing in the first place.

But mainly, these stories were about their semi-final opponents, RB Leipzig.

In a curious twist of fate, their club has a similar background, and guess what?

That was the story the media wanted to tell, the story of the fake team, the story of the Leipzig scam.

I am sure that there are German publications which sniggered over the hypocrisy. I know that I certainly did, because RB Leipzig might be everything that our media says but that couldn’t matter less.

When these two games are out of the way I can’t see myself ever wishing them particularly well, yet, there is more integrity in how they got started and how they went about their task of reaching the top of the German game than there is in what happened at Ibrox.

There, Norman Bates FC dressed in a dead club’s clothes, dumped its debts, claimed its past and then set about going after anyone who confronted them on the lie.

Yeah they’ve spent more than they should have been able to, but that’s another thing both clubs have in common.

They are widely disliked for their presumption and arrogance. Snap.

But if it’s okay to criticise Leipzig over it then why does our media fasten its lips to the Ibrox posterior and pretend that none of this applies to them at all?

The press here has no shame whatsoever.

I thought those stories yesterday were hilarious in how snide they were and how they ignored the sordid history of Ibrox’s current club. There is nothing worse than seeing these people behave so hypocritically and yet so without embarrassment.
