Put that one in the bag!

The Cameron Carter Vickers deal is done, and Celtic has just announced that in the strangest way imaginable!

With a video of someone updating lines on resume, under the title “Updating Our CV.”

Whoever came up with that … brilliant!

I like that, I really do.

It’s clever! It’s neat!

It’s a fantastic piece of work by the online team, and the news itself is nothing but good.

The club formalised the announcement as I was writing this, and this is what the big guy had to say.

“I am so pleased to complete my move to Celtic and I really could not be happier. I have loved every minute of my time at Celtic so far and I really wanted to be part of the club’s future. We have a fantastic group of players at the club, we have a really good spirit and atmosphere among us and we all worked so hard together to deliver the league and League Cup success last season. I wanted to make sure I was part of this group going forward and working under a great manager, and now we all want to achieve more. We have so much to look forward to, we will aim to be strong again domestically and of course we look ahead with real excitement to the Champions League.”

Carter Vickers is, of the two players, the one I most wanted.

I thought Jota was excellent last season, but there are other players who could be had in the wide positions for that kind of money, and although I will be over the moon if he signs too this is the one I wanted, the toughest of the two deals to get completed and the one that made the big difference.

It was the signing of Carter Vickers, on loan at the end of the last summer window, that convinced me that we had a title challenging squad. We badly needed a centre back and I knew enough good things about to him to recognise that he’d be a major asset.

He is one of the big reasons why we won the title.

He was a colossus at the heart of central defence all season long, and I am thrilled that this deal has been completed.

I said this morning that this was a real test of the board and it was, and I am delighted that they have secured such a good footballer, and one who would have had offers from England and elsewhere.

This is the deal the hacks never thought we would get done. As recently as this week, we had the clownish Alan Hutton inventing roadblocks which didn’t exist.

Well deep breaths folks, breathe in and breathe out … the first signing of the summer window is now over the line, and for me it’s a huge deal and one that speaks to our determination to push onwards and do more and not only retain these trophies but make a big splash on that grander stage of Europe.

This is a club finally showing genuine intent.

I applaud it, I celebrate it, and so should every Celtic fan.

Outstanding work, from everyone at the club from the boardroom to the management team.

Great start to the summer window.

Happy Angeversary!

A great signing that takes a bit of pressure off our transfer expectations. For me though Jota is the most important of the two, 6M would be an absolute bargain for this excellent player, he’s worth at least three times that and we could never get anyone as good as him for 6M. He could make the big difference in our CL games as he always has that something extra, that missing spark that makes good players into great ones, I will be more delighted when we announce his capture.
