The Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei has signed for Celtic on a 5 year deal today, adding to the permanent deals for Siegrist, Maeda and Carter Vickers.
This takes our summer spending to over £11 million, and flexes our muscle as a club with guaranteed Champions League income.
The 21 year old attacking full-back is a player we’ve scouted extensively, and the manager signed off on him as our number one target on that side of the pitch. Obviously, it is unusual for us to go shopping in South America, but our successes in Japan have clearly expanded the club’s horizons and this is all to the good.
In spite of his youth, Bernabei has over 60 games in the first team at Argentine club Lanus, and he has been linked with several moves to Europe in that time.
Celtic has been looking for a player in this area for a while now.
Some were surprised that we didn’t go out and spend money on the left back slot last season; the signing of Liam Scales was obviously not intended to be a permanent solution to this.
Greg Taylor has probably performed better than we all expected, but there’s no doubt that this is a signing which we have needed, and which Ange has been pushing for behind the scenes.
It is one of the most important bits of business we will do in this window.
Congratulations to everyone at Celtic who worked hard to get it over the line.
Now all we need is the defensive midfielder, and the permanent deal for Jota, and I think most of us will be broadly satisfied with how the team looks for the campaign ahead.
Great bit of business, Celtic, and onward to the next deal.

Until we see Bernabei in action there is not a lot we can say about him, other than that he is a welcome addition and a necessary option for that LB position. For a defender, I think that at 5′-7″ he is on the small side, but hopefully he can make up for that with his other potential talents. I look forward to seeing him in action and wish him well with his Celtic career.
His height is something that surprised me as well because a lot of the gripes about GT last season were to do with his lack of stature – especially when deployed as the first man at free kicks on the right. I have no doubt Ange knows what he is doing but I am not going to say aye this is a magic signing till we see the boy in action. However, I do know the Celtic fans will give hin the time he needs to establish himself.
Welcome to Celtic, Alexandro.
Encouraging to get these deals done early.
Just need a bit of an animal in midfield, and we’re good to go! 🙂
Pleased that’s over the line. Jota tomorrow?
Even with the collapse of the Julien deal (he appears to be out of Ange’s planning), I think we still need to be looking at a CB or two, as well as a DCM. In line with the above comments, perhaps someone with height, bulk and the stature of a Bobo (wishful thinking I know).
A few complaints about the lads height, didn’t hinder Frimpong.
Frimpong was not a good defender in my opinion. He did have other redeeming attributes, speed and trickery, and we did really well to make such a great profit on him. I wasn’t too bothered about seeing him go at the time,
Greg Taylor has the slot, it is up to the young lad to push for it. Both win. £11M spending, that’s quite a lot for a Scottish club. Others are having to cut back.
Have you ever heard of the concept of a Wingback James?
So many Celtic Bloggers showing their derrière on this one it getting comical.
The clueless will lap it up all the same.
