Celtic Complete The Signing Of Argentine Left Back As Club Steps Up To Back The Boss.

The Argentine left-back Alexandro Bernabei has signed for Celtic on a 5 year deal today, adding to the permanent deals for Siegrist, Maeda and Carter Vickers.

This takes our summer spending to over £11 million, and flexes our muscle as a club with guaranteed Champions League income.

The 21 year old attacking full-back is a player we’ve scouted extensively, and the manager signed off on him as our number one target on that side of the pitch. Obviously, it is unusual for us to go shopping in South America, but our successes in Japan have clearly expanded the club’s horizons and this is all to the good.

In spite of his youth, Bernabei has over 60 games in the first team at Argentine club Lanus, and he has been linked with several moves to Europe in that time.

Celtic has been looking for a player in this area for a while now.

Some were surprised that we didn’t go out and spend money on the left back slot last season; the signing of Liam Scales was obviously not intended to be a permanent solution to this.

Greg Taylor has probably performed better than we all expected, but there’s no doubt that this is a signing which we have needed, and which Ange has been pushing for behind the scenes.

It is one of the most important bits of business we will do in this window.

Congratulations to everyone at Celtic who worked hard to get it over the line.

Now all we need is the defensive midfielder, and the permanent deal for Jota, and I think most of us will be broadly satisfied with how the team looks for the campaign ahead.

Great bit of business, Celtic, and onward to the next deal.
