The window opens tomorrow, and if reports overnight are true and we’ve opened talks with the representatives of Benji Siegrist then we’re on course for reporting our first addition to the squad before the start of the weekend.

It’s a simple enough deal to get done.

If the interest is real there’s no reason why we won’t close it.

The sticking point, as I’ve said all along, is that we’re going to need to tell this guy what his squad status is and he’s going to have to make a decision on whether he accepts that or not.

He might not, because he can go somewhere else and play.

I think this will be our first bit of summer business, excluding the deals for our loanees. It makes good sense. The departure of Barkas yesterday strongly suggests that something is in the offing, and I believe that this is what it’ll be.

Siegrist is a good keeper. Some were arguing that we should have signed him last summer when we were looking for a starter. I don’t think that would have been a disaster.

With Barkas still on the books and everyone getting a fresh start, I didn’t think it made a lot of sense to spend big money on a guy to play between the sticks … and neither did the club.

This summer, we were always going to have to go into the market to strengthen this area of the team and now that’s available for free I cannot see any reason not to do this.

He’s an international and a known quality … and I think by this time tomorrow morning he might well be a Celtic player.

We’ll soon find out.
