The Record’s Second Hand Carter Vickers Hatchet Job Is Desperate And Disgraceful.

The Record tonight has posted a gleeful, spiteful article negatively attacking Cameron Carter Vickers, in which it bizarrely suggests that Ibrox’s virtual unknown James Sands is seen as a better option for the United States.

They got this story from the MLS website; I can call it a hatchet-job quite easily because that’s what it is.

The MLS article is so clearly written by someone who has no idea what he’s talking about it that I would be embarrassed to have such low-rent commentary on this site.

That The Record has used it as the basis of an attack on our player reeks of malice and desperation.

“Cameron Carter Vickers Celtic hype forgotten in brutal US media verdict as Rangers loanee named World Cup alternative” screams their deplorable headline.

Having read the piece, I cannot believe that the American writer has ever actually watched Scottish football.

“Carter-Vickers does a lot of good stuff when the ball’s on the ground, but he’s not Long’s equal in the air, and that matters … Carter-Vickers has never really shown the ability to muscle a centre forward and win a long clearance … and has struggled to do it for his club at higher levels. His weakness in the air is the reason he plays in Scotland rather than England, full stop.”

Carter Vickers isn’t good in the air? What is this shit?

And it gets worse.

“One thing I will say is that if there needs to be a fifth centre back – and there should be if rosters are expanded to 26 – it should be James Sands because of his versatility. He’d slot into the depth chart as a fifth centre back as well as a third mid and a third right back.”

So Cameron Carter Vickers shouldn’t be considered for the squad although everyone in Scotland agrees he was absolutely outstanding? Whilst Sands can play three positions all in one!

People who actually have watched these two play – more than this joker appears to have done – know who the success story was.

And maybe the writer of that piece doesn’t know – but Mark Pirie of The Record, who has made it the centrepiece of his own bullshit certainly does – that if Celtic hadn’t exercised their option to buy that a host of English clubs were ready to.

Hell, Pirie should know that … he wrote about it often enough.

Would you even have remembered there was such a player as James Sands if not for this?

The writer of that piece is a first-rate idiot, but his lamentable piece.

Rather than point that out, it gave Pirie, instead, his cue to do a sneering attack article on one of the players who was simply outstanding here in the last campaign.

That is The Record at its desperate, disreputable worst.
