Celtic Fans Are Right To Be Aghast At Sky Sport’s Jota Segment … Featuring Kris Boyd.

You think you’ve seen it all, folks, and then you watch Sky Sports News today. After waiting for several hours to see what they would say about the signing of Jota we finally got a segment on the signing.

Except that it wasn’t.

What we got was Kris Boyd.

In the segment of the show devoted to Celtic spending £6 million plus on one of the most exciting players Scottish football has seen in years, we got that grinning, gurning eejit showing off his full lack of skills by stuttering and stammering and falling over his words as he discussed Ibrox’s failure to get signings done.

We got a minute at the end. The whole piece was just a waste of our time, as amusing as it was seeing Boyd try to speak intelligently. He conceded that Ibrox needs money before it can spend anything serious; that was the highlight of it.

It is a disgrace that Sky can turn a segment on us into one on them, even if it’s to highlight the yawning gap between the business we’ve done and the complete lack of movement over there.

Boyd was allowed to put up a pitiful defence of their board and their “strategy” before they even got to congratulating us over an outstanding signing.

This is typical of the broadcaster. It is typical of the way they view Scottish football.

They, like the BBC, have dumbed down by hiring the sort of people who wouldn’t get a gig on a blog. Is he really the only person up here they could have found to talk about how our club has gone out and paid big money for a top footballer?

I watched that aghast today. I am sure I wasn’t alone.

It was that station at its absolute worst, and although I’ve more to say about Boyd’s comments in another piece it was dreadful that Sky, through him, devoted time that should have been ours to them.

Regardless, this is a big, big day for our club … and nothing Sky or anyone else do will make a less significant one.

They owed the Celtic fans in their audience more than just that gormless face and his attempt at insight. They owed us more than an afterthought to their Ibrox transfer window inquest.
