The Hibs Chairman Is Talking Garbage About Ibrox’s “Advancement” Of Our Game.

Ron Gordon of Hibs is the darling of the Ibrox fan forums. For now.

But that man’s comments the other day about how the club over there has done more to “advance Scottish football” than any other in the last couple of years might have the village idiots of Sevconia applauding like seals hoping to get thrown another fish, but the rest of us should be appalled by them.

It is not the hysterical over-blown reaction to their European run – although that is bad enough – that makes his words so utterly stupid but the contention that the club over there has helped Scottish football’s image or is even interested in doing so.

What planet has this guy been living on that he thinks the club which has jeopardised not only the existing commercial contracts that the game has but all its future ones as well is the club that has best helped promote Scottish football?

What has he missed about the George Square riots, the casual sectarianism and racism, the UEFA fines – they have more UEFA fines from the last campaign than they had wins on their run- the insanity of their director’s statements, the Loyalist in their boardroom or a business plan that has been predicated on debts and loans that leads him to believe that they are a net positive for the reputation of our national sport instead of a drag on it?

Did he fail to understand the implications of their media policy?

Or the utter disdain they showed for the organisers of the Australian event when their fans started stamping their feet in outage?

What did that do for the reputation of their club and the wider game in Scotland?

Did he not comprehend the recent SPFL television deal with Japanese companies which had, and I quote, “Celtic at the heart of it”?

In his rush to pander to Ibrox and the collective ego at that club – which does not need it in the month they forced the BBC to its knees – he has really only accomplished one thing; to make himself look like an ignorant stooge of their board, even as his own club’s supporters look at theirs in shock and growing anger at how utterly dysfunctional it is.

I mean they do have some things in common; Ibrox also has a thing about ineligible players, although if he had his eyes open he would see that his club was treated markedly differently on that score than previous Ibrox operations were.

His judgement stinks to high heaven, and you don’t have to look at the way Hibs go about appointing, and sacking, managers to see it … but if we needed further evidence, then he has provided here in spades.
