You gotta love the Boss and the way he understands that psychology plays a big role in how football seasons unfold.

Last season, what was needed was the sure, steady hand and the constant reminders to our fans and his team that a bad start did not automatically mean that the campaign would be a disaster. He was, of course, right.

When you listen to Ange now, you are left in no doubt that you are hearing the words of a title winning boss, a man who considers his side the best team in the country.

The demands are no longer on attaining consistency, they are towards excellence, towards demonstrating our superiority in the games that it would have been enough, last season, just to win.

After the Aberdeen game, he was angry with some aspects of the performance. After the game at the weekend he swatted aside suggestions from the BBC that we had been “toiling” or “struggling” during the match.

This man is sure of himself and of this team.

He knows what it is capable of and he expects to see it every single week.

Ange also understands power dynamics, and that it is not enough to rest on your laurels and bask in the glory of what you’ve already done.

He will not allow this club to stand still.

Today at the presser he amplified previous statements about wanting perhaps another player; now he is targeting “one or two” more signings. This team continues to evolve.

Most importantly, it continues to evolve in a manner of Ange’s choosing.

But above all, this is a show of force.

This is “look how strong we already are, and guess what? We plan to get even stronger.”

It’s a message to everyone who might fancy their chances of taking something from us that we won’t give up anything – not as much as a point – without someone giving everything to get it.

Over the longer haul of the campaign itself, Ange is telling other clubs that we don’t intend to give up anything at all. We’re doing what champions do. Getting stronger, all the better to add to the honours.

The rest of this league should be terrified.
