Motherwell’s Chairman Should Get His House In Order Before Telling Celtic What It Needs.

Motherwell’s chairman, Alan Burrows, has suggested that we should all want Ibrox to go through in Europe in the coming week.

From his own point of view, he needs their club’s share of the “solidarity payment.”

Maybe he wouldn’t if he and his directors had gotten their own house in order sooner, sorted out their management situation and not gone out of Europe to a team from the League of Ireland. He has some balls to be lecturing the rest of us on what Scottish football wants, and needs, when he has presided over such an epic humiliation.

I am tired of our club being told what it should and shouldn’t want on this front by people like this. He talks about the co-efficient. As far as I’m concerned when your club embarrasses the nation with a result like the one that led to him sacking his manager then you should be barred from ever mentioning the co-efficient again.

We wouldn’t need Ibrox to get extra co-efficient points if clubs like the one Burrows runs were more professional in their own approach to Europe. He talks about the Dundee Utd and Hearts results; they played against reasonably good sides.

Utd played against a very good one, and Hearts aren’t out yet.

To mention them in the context of his club’s shame doesn’t come close to glossing over what a disgrace that result and performance was.

Only in Scotland, in this football equivalent of a failed state, could someone like this have the balls to talk this way about what the biggest club in the country should want without someone in the media stopping him and saying “there might be people in this country qualified to talk this way, but you sure as shit aren’t one of them.”

He talks about tribalism and how its wrong-headed not to want other Scottish sides to succeed. But part of my anger at him is that I did want his club to go through, and I wanted Dundee Utd to go through and I want Hearts to go through as well.

Because Scottish clubs need the income from Group Stage football.

It would do the whole league the world of good if these sides had more money to spend.

Dundee Utd were undone by a dreadfully difficult draw, although they got a home win.

Hearts performed well and can still turn their fixture around; nevertheless, they are guaranteed European Group Stage games and that’s all to the good. That’s what the game here needs.

But wanting to see your rivals enriched isn’t something any football fan, anywhere in the country, would want and he knows it and I don’t know whether this is some form of tribalism of his own or just stirring the soup for the sake of it, but it’s pretty idiotic to claim that this stuff doesn’t matter.

Our future in Europe, as far as the co-efficient goes, is in our own hands anyway and I will be a lot happier when the disgraces of the likes of Motherwell aren’t dragging us down.

Call us tribalist as you please. Christ, we are.

I personally don’t care, and I don’t think I’m alone, in saying out loud that I couldn’t give a toss how many of these cretins come forth to tell us that we should wish Ibrox well on Wednesday night.

I don’t. I won’t. I hope they get pumped and I feel not the least regret or remorse for holding that view nor the least embarrassment for expressing it.

I hope PSV run over them like a tank and dump them into the Europa League where I hope they secure not one solitary point.

If that makes me a tribalist so be it. It’s better than being the joke of Europe, which for a brief time whilst anyone remembered who they were a few weeks back, his club was.

Burrows should save the sermons for people with shorter memories.
